Pistons that is.
Picked up my new V8V on Friday very excited despite not being the V12's that everyone else is picking up. Pics to follow but it's midnight blue with blue interior and 20-spoke diamond turned wheels. Looks pretty nice
Initial thoughts (it's now got about 320miles on it after a weekend of tootling around).
- What a huge event to drive! First time the magic 4,000RPM came up the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. Fantastic car in every respect. It was this or another 911 and definitely know I've bought the right one. I was worried about buying the "technically" inferior car but the Porker could never be this special to drive.
- Coming from a 997 Turbo it does feel down on power, but a hell of a lot better than the 4.3 I drove. Certainly feels as quick as my E92 M3, probably quicker. Not run in yet so will be going easy. Pulls comfortable in any gear.
- Journalists don't know there arse from their elbow. The interior is fantastic and does not feel over designed at all. I love the ECU, I love the button layout, I love the pen, sat nav is way better than adequate (I'd say at least as good as the PCM2.0 I'm coming from) and much easier to use than iDrive. iPod integration, bluetooth and stereo also great (I've got premium audio).
- I don't love where the cupholders are. I don't find the gearstick uncomfortable (another common journalist complaint) apart from when I've got a couple of tall Lattes on board.
- The corner of the door cards looks unfinished... go and look at them on your cars now, this is going to bug me
- It's way more practical than I thought. Though lack of a roof rack does make is less useful than a 911.
- I've been let out of more junctions than ever before, from the sort of people you would imagine would never let anyone out - this car generates huge amounts of positive attention even around SW London where they are ten a penny
- Lockton's was the best insurance quote by a mile (over a grand vs the next best which was a high excess policy)
- I will refuse to drive a V12V for at least a year! I think this is, at a minimum, a two year car for me - which would be a recent record!

Suggest you stay well away from a test-drive, that was my mistake having bought my new 4.7 last year and 4 months later whilst popping into a dealer persuaded into the next step. Big big mistake! Stay away from the nasty mean trickster dealer! I was a very happy bunny With a car for keeps until then! Get some pics on here, have never seen a midnight blue vantage and having loved the 911s in the midnight, It would be good to see an Aston. Enjoy!!!
