I'd just like to pass on my thanks to Rick and his team at Derby Motor Services for the great service on Wednesday.

My '07 V8V came up for it's 3 year check and after a most unsatisfactory response at my local AM dealer when I mildly questioned their charge of £860 for the service I decided to take the drive North, enjoyed the day out, had fantastic BLT (thanks Kay) and was able to watch my car being serviced.

I would recommend their quality of their work and enthusiasm to all, Rick answered all my dumb questions with patience and I came away with a smile and safe in the knowledge that my much loved Vantage was in good health.

For the record the two comments from the AM dealer service manager which stuck in my mind as I drove away were, 'we don't compete with people who don't have an AM badge above the door' and 'and anyway why should we - we're booking in work 3 weeks ahead...' Lucky them I say - they obviously don't need or want my business so I guess we both got what we wanted!

Hope to see everyone who can make it at the DMS Open day and Charity Event on the 26th.

The AM dealer service manager is a complete tool if thats what he said to you.......main dealer attitude is changing and are now realising that they cant get away with the attitude "if you have to ask the price , you cant afford it" I'm happy to report that my local main dealer are now charging more "sensible" prices provided that you are prepared to negotiate.I would have been happy to use DMS this year but decided I wanted to put another 12 months warranty on the car and therefore had no option but to use a main dealer.
Its good to hear another good story about DMS.......you dont get BLT's at a main dealer !!!

I can tell you that my local dealer charged me £612 for the 5 year service on my DB9 including VAT, warranty inspection, and the loan of a Jag for the day........it didn't include oil which I purchased from Costco for £52.00.....good value me thinks

£480 inc VAT - includes free advice about all things AM technical, several mugs of tea with biscuits, BLT and guided tour of the work in progress !

And with the EU rules the remainder of the warranty is still valid.

Once again - thoroughly recommended to all....

That's more than £200 less than what I've been quoted by an AM dealer for a 3 year service on my V8V (and that was the price for the lesser of two options offered). Hmm.

Also anyone got an idea of prices for new brake pads all round? (Indies such as DMS and AM dealers?)

you shouldnt need to use a main dealer to keep your warenty, you could use Tesco if you wanted im pritty sure.

I put the z4mc in for a 3yr health check at main dealer last month, as mot was due and warenty nealy out, The BMW dealer didnt even have the decencey to let me know the car was comming up for its 1st mot or warenty expired..i only twigged because of the Tax reminder.
was told 2 weeks to book in ,but i insisted on health check before warenty out as an issue with hunting was present, color had warn off the seat @ 11k miles, and headlights fog up in the cold.
besides needed Mot within a week.

Dealer took it in,orderd seat cover,(still havnt hurd owt 1 month later) and temp sender.all the lights do that sir i got.
and a clean bill of health.
Took it down the road for mot cos main dealer needed 2 weeks motice, Despite doing 5 miles after a full health check it needed 3 tyres,(bald and 1 large cut).and 2 reg plate bulbs were out.
The same main dealer whose salesman couldnt be bothred with me when i enquired about a new z6 in movember the z4 was in for £350 service (oilchange and polen filter) didnt even check the winscreen wash fluid.2 weeks later had to call Service out dead cell in battery, this was on service sheet but not picked up by engineer. A second hand merk battery was fitted while it took 2 weeks to get the right battery.
Sales dude said he had no z6 and could¬nt get one till new year,2 months away, recond there was only one model then when confronted tried to tell me i didnt want the the twin turbo or petrol.
pushed him to look on computer for stock then he refused to give me details of another dealer with one in stock, cos he wanted to sell me one.. in January..
Some main dealers atitudes stink, Indipendents seam to have love for the mark they work with and take pride in there work, not the pay pack at the end of the month,
BMW wanted £350+ more for a same set of tyres as the 1st indipendant fitter i called.

I'm off for my first Rick experience in a couple of weeks...and looking forward to it: drop the car off on a Friday morning and then bimble around the Dales for the day before staying at a lovely B&B prior to collecting the car back on a Saturday!

Looking forward to it (and meeting Rick and the team) thumbup

I realise that you do not have to get a car serviced by a main dealer to maintain warranty

However, I don't think indepenents such as Rick can undertake work that will be paid for by Aston Martin under a cars warranty. Or if they can, I bet its very difficult to organise.

For example, I had a leaky shock which Rick advised me to get replaced under warranty by a main dealer

Me too! What I liked most was the access allowed while the lads worked on the car which gave me great confidence in Rick and his team. My main dealer's quote for the service was just too much and not negotiable either.

warenty claims are a difficult issue at he best of times,
I just had a BIG issue with M.B.that ended up with an outa court settlememt (16k just to get it to court)+ me not being allowed to talk about it, but they learnt a lesson or two, clasic case of were bigger than your physical evedence and we will throw so mutch money at it you wont be able to keep up.
never quite got my 85k out of em but did ok .
Verry dificult to get a barister to take on the work against a multi national co.even at a couple of hundred quid an hr plus v..
Some Main dealers just think they have a right to rip people off.
even to the extent of eligaly holding parts supply to ransome, Including A.M.

yes what is your point toofastforme about froggie's spelling.....this is Forum about Astons and not spelling........anyway its nice to have somebody on this forum who's spelling is worse than mine smile

Like Froggie I also have had terrible experinces with MB main dealers........and BMW main dealers.......just a tip I was given by a pal of mine who's in the trade.....never have your car MOT'd by a main dealer...they are looking to fail it to maximise the profit from your car......use a MOT only stations

The school teacher in me will out.

Granted, this is not a forum about spelling. However, do please let's try to retain some command of our mother tongue.

Think of me not so much as a mediator, more so as a grammatical vigilante. I will be scouring the forum and marking your homework. You have all been warned!

I can't see the logic here as this will only cause main agent dealers to close, dealers are extreamly good on the whole and provide excellant standards of work and support.
Also having a factory trained technican work on your high end sports car goes a long way.

Is driving 300miles to save £200 a saving or not?

Another postitive with using a dealer is a rapour is built and when you need them they are there for you. I.E leaning on Aston to come to the party with out of warranty issues.

Firstly I challenge the statement 'dealers are extremely good' - not in my experience (so far - but I'm ready to be proved wrong) but as ever your mileage may vary...

The common view around here is that the work at DMS is of an excellent standard and I don't see any main dealers on this forum giving the help and support Rick does.

Is driving 300 miles to save £200 worth it - depends if you like driving your car I guess - again the choice is yours and that is the whole point - having a choice.

Personally I don't think taking work away from Main Dealers will cause them to close - but it might make them more competative...

toataly agree with this view.......I'm sick and tied of main dealers charging what they like and getting away with it.....a little story for everybody about a main dealer.

My brother is a Chartered accountant and a client purchased a very low miles 5 year old Vanquish from a main dealer.....the car had been in storage for two years with the previous owner and my brothers client insisted on the car being fully serviced before he took delivery........he picks up the car 1 week later and takes it to his best mates house to show off his 90k purchase. As you would expect they open the bonnet to have a look at the engine only to find a birds nest sitting on top of it !........ I belive he got free servicing for the next two years.

Main dealers only desire is to maximise the profit from every car that comes across their forcourt and I wouldn't trust any of them
