Thankyou

The Vanquish gearbox is a manual box fitted with an hydraulic actuator in place of the gear stick, ratios for the tremec T56 are as follows

1st - 2.66:1
2nd - 1.78:1
3rd - 1.30:1
4th - 1.00:1
5th - 0.80:1
6th - 0.63:1
rev - 2.90:1

i am correct in thinking that only the vanquish came with a sort of semi auto gearbox?

Also do you know the tremec part number for the vanquish gearbox?

thankyou

I presume you mean in the Aston models, The v8 vantage also has an automated manual transmission, for the sportshift version (not a tremec box), I do have the tremec number somewhere but for the life of me can't find it at the moment, I will see what I can do,

its going to get a bit more specific smile

my next question is did the semi auto tremec gearbox also come in the db7 vantages, if so were the ratios the same as the vanquish

i am asking this as i have a monaro, i blew the gearbox up, long story. i have a replacement box but i found out that the vanquish has the same 1st to 4th as the monaro, but has a shorter 5th and 6th which is ideal for top speed runs. My plan is to strip an aston box down and re house in a monaro case and use the monaro main shaft and shift assembly.

the manual DB7 Vantage did use the tremec T56 with a gear stick so no hydraulic system, and the gear ratios are the same, The problem will be is the small production numbers both for the vanquish and the DB7 Vantage manual, there was also a change for the DB7 GT as they had a twin plate clutch, on saying that the bell housing will swap over on any T56, Have you got the repair manual for the box as can help with this, parts are not easy to source but can gladly pass on the details of possible sources,

No problem, I have stripped and rebuilt many of these so just let me know, and kettle is always on, be warned venture into the domain that is Aston there is no going back, everything else even if it does go faster just does not cut it,

thats what i thought but after emailing a few t56 gearbox contacts i have in the states i am fairly confident that its a vanquish box due to the hydraulics and the part numbers provided.

The DB7 only used the tremec as a manual and is not a semi auto, and the vanquish is a manual box, it is the gear selection which is controlled by hydraulic's and an ecu, so as some have done they removed the hydraulics and fitted a gear stick, the DB7 auto box is a full auto which is a ZF6 5HP30 unit as used by BMW, and had the option of gear change controls on the steering wheel, The V8 Vantage use the graziano transaxle for both manual and auto, same box with one with a gear stick and one with hydraulic gear change, and the 9 uses the ZF6HP26 which is also a full auto used by other manufactures albeit with a dedicated mechatronic unit, ask me what I had for breakfast yesterday I wouldn't have a clue, I think my ocd may be Aston martin biggrin

This one has a tuet1576 part number so it looks like it is a t56 gearbox.

I can post up the exact number if that helps. If its wrong i will just sell it or if the ratios are still the same as ie 2.66 1st etc then i will just use it or spares.

I heard that the vanquish box was a t56 box with gear shift hydraulics, this doesnt look transaxle to me so could be a good sign.

how bad is your original box as the cost of a donor it may be more cost effective to rebuild your own with the ratios you desire I would estimate somewhere between £1200 to £2500 fully rebuilt basically as new so unless the donor with shipping import tax etc was below this may be a better option, I have seen them pretty much destroyed as long as the casing is ok, pretty much it should be repairable upgradeable,

Ive got a replacement but for top speed runs with the standard monaro gearing the car is geared for 270mph in 6th with the aston 6th it will top out at 215mph.

I need a new mainshaft, counter shaft, countershaft extension, 4 different gears, 3 bearings, and 2 set of synchros. Around £2k in parts alone.

Just thought the serial number indicates that it was built in september 03 so could it possibly be out of an aston martin vantage gt.

have you a picture as the gt has an extended bell housing to fit the twin plate clutch as fitted to the vanquish and a shorter prop, so may be able to help with id,
