New V8V owner saying hi..
Discussion
Thought i would just introduce myself as i have recently bought an 06 Vantage as quite frankly at the prices you can pick them up for now it was rude not too and up until recently it was only something i'd only ever dreamed of owning. I literally live two doors down from Astons in Newport Pagnell and my dad worked there all his life spraying them, so he was well choked when i pulled up in the Vantage .
Im loving the car, obviously, and have been totally surprised at the admiration it gets anywhere you drive and I just cant help smiling all the time and the sound of that V8 engine is sooo awesome that im sure someday i'll actually get round to checking that the sound system works
Anyway, im not mechanically minded at all so just wanted a bit of advise please
The clutch picks up right at the end, if that makes sense, can this be adjusted or is it on its way out? There is no problem in selecting and changing gears..
The brakes are really heavy, is this just the way they are? i also have an M3 with modified brakes and when i touch the brakes it stops, but with the Aston im having to be really firm with them..
Love this colour

Lovely car. Congrats.
Clutch - I believe these are auto-adjusting hydraulic items and there's nothing much can be done to adjust it. I was sure mine went higher after about 10k miles, but was advised it was "normal". Car currently has 36.5k miles on it and is still on its original clutch (touchwood!).
Brakes - depends what you're used to I think. I like the brake feel. Pedal is very progressive. I don't find it heavy...but if stopping in a hurry it does need a bit of a squeeze. I suppose the general feel on mine is similar to the initial travel on the clutch pedal if that helps.

oh...thanks...sounds like a new clutch is just around the corner then as its literally at the top.. and re the brakes by the sound of it its just how they are.
as my dad is well known at the factory they have kindly offered to take a general look at the car so i suppose whatevers wrong will come to light...
Ok, off for another drive

clutch sounds normal to me, ive got a Jan 06 car on 50K miles and its fine (touch wood)
brakes shouldnt be that heavy, maybe your pads are glazed over a bit, especially if its been stood a while or only lightly used ...have you bedded in the pads again recently?
standard procedure for Pagids (what are OE on the car) is on their website
from memory, just find a quiet bit of road, do a few stops from 30 at say 80% effort, then 50, then one from 70mph, progressively until you basically get some heat into them and have done a full on emergency stop from 70mph (hence quiet bit of road needed) ...that will clean them off and should improve feel again ...I always do it with new pads or if the car hasnt had a good drive for a while
