Hi

I have recently purchased the car and am having problems with the handsfree.
The phone in question is a i-phone (3GS) It has successfully synced with the car, but is unable to make receive calls via the steering wheel or instrument panel.

It did initially ring in the cabin, but could only be answered via the handset, but now even that seems to not work – which is what leads me to believe there is a fault on the car.

The dealer is adamant that the car software will not operate this phone.

Have any of you other people got this phone/model/year car and able to use it?

Thanks

Andy

The 3gs will pair and work , but you will not be able to use some of the functions , as said on the steering etc , the is a Aston martin site that tells you this i think it is a sub site off there main web site.

Everything works, except, crucially, the pick up call button. Voice dialling, volume and call end are all fine.

Hi everyone, first timer. Just been to test drive a DB9 2007 today, loved it. On this subject the car is advertised as having bluetooth but you need to insert a sim in the dash. The salesman, who is only 2 weeks into the job, did not know if it would connect automatically as you get in the car without the need to take the sim out of the phone and insert it in the dash. I also have a iphone 3gs. Any help/advice would be very welcome on this or other info you feel a potential DB9 owner should know. Thanks

Hi,
Firstly welcome to the Aston forum. Lots of advice / help here on (especially) modern Astons. You need to check if the car actually has Bluetooth. Mine has a SIM slot and Bluetooth. Never used the SIM slot on mine for the obvious reason its got bluetooth. Phone syncs up as soon as I switch the car on. Then got control from the steering wheel controls. Assuming its the same as the V8 Vantage (like mine) there will be two little LED's in front of the gear lever, which show the bluetooth status.

Never worked out the point of the SIM slot. whistle

I bought my 07 about 8 weeks ago and love the car – but they are not without faults and niggles, which really should not be there!

The car phone does not work with the 3GS – so yes removing the sim each time and inserting in the dash would solve the problem – but that’s too much hassle for me and of course defeats the object of Bluetooth.

Once you have found the ‘right’ car, my advice would be to make sure you have 12 month AM warranty.

Make sure the battery is OK. A lot of owners ‘trickle’ charge them if leaving the car without using it for any length of time. I was not aware of this ridiculous need, only to return from holls to a flat battery which then sent some of the electrics ‘daft’ and needed the main dealer to reset a number of things.

My Bluetooth sounds the same as yours with the two lights – but it definitely does not work with Iphone 3GS.

Andy,
Been queried before:-

Its not an Aston issue per se, more an Apple one. But then i don't have any Apple products (be a leader not a follower wink )- have an HTC phone. Bluetooth is not a set 'standard' products can be bluetooth compatible but not work together as they as complying with different parts of the standard.
Never had any problems with my battery, but don't leave it more than two weeks between driving it. You can turn off some of the systems to stop the battery draining too quickly.

The bluetooth unit on an 07my aston is a motorola unit which is sealed and unaccessable by Aston Martin. You can blame motorola for that one I suppose. The later unit from 08my onward is purpose built for Aston and can be accessed by the dealers and as such can be upgraded as Aston release new software for it. There's a lot of bluetooth standards though so not everything is going to work. That can definately be blamed on the mobile phone industry for not setting a standard that everyone sticks to.

I could never get my 3GS to work with my 07 Vantage, but strangely enough got an Iphone 4 and it works perfectly for calls and as a tracker tag. Maybe just check if you are due an upgrade from the phone people.

My 3GS is using the latest 4G software - so doubt upgrading the phone will work, but may be worth borrowing a 4G to find out

Aston have a list of phones that work with the 08my system onwards (not the 06-07my unfortunately) and on that list it shows that the i-phone, iphone 3G and the i-phone 4 all work but the i-phone 3GS does not. This is something to do with Apple not Aston. This is probably why there are issues with the 07my kit too for people with the 3GS.

Regards the SIM slot, some cars had a GSM phone (requires a SIM card) not bluetooth, other had been spec'd with both (I think this only applied to the DB9). All cars had the SIM slot though but on alot of them it doesn't actually do anything. It's all down to whether a GSM module is fitted. One way of telling is by pressing the phone button on the dash and seeing if it says 'insert sim card'.
