Hi all,

New to this site but would be interested in thoughts from other Aston lovers.

I bought a brand new DB9 a year ago. It was always my dream to own one and when I could afford it I jumped in. It was the first time I've ever bought a sports car let alone a super car.

She has been a dream to look at and to drive but I've been truly horrified by the list of faults and niggles. In total she's been off the road for almost a quarter of her life having various bits fixed or replaced. Nothing major, just constant problems, but this has even included a small area of paint bubbling due to rust ... on a brand new car.

Is this just 'the way it is' with Astons or have I been particularly unlucky?

Cheers

Not necessarily.

Plenty of research before purchase to set expectations is always wise. Then talking fairly but firmly with your dealer as soon as issues arise is strongly recommended.

I had some minor niggles on my V8, but I would guess it's been off the road for less than 10 days in 3.5yrs (servicing mostly).

I'd be talking firmly and frankly to the dealer and if necessary the dealer principle long before this. There are lots of niggles that can happen on Aston's (or any other marque) but tend not to happen on every car.
If there is anything specific you are still having problems with, post it up and we will see if we cna help / give advice

it does sound like youve been unlucky if youve had lots of niggles

most people have a few with any new new car of any make/price point...its like buying a new house, and 6 months later having a snagging list...some appear within weeks, others may not show up until you get some miles under its belt, and with some owners just doing a few K miles a year, it can take years for them to shake down

usually though, by the time youve had a 1 year service, and got 10K on the clock, they are all sorted out

it really does depend on your expecations though and what you are used to......

e.g if you have had Toyotas for the last 10 years or TVRs, your outlook will be very different as to what is to be expected of a hand built modern car versus robot built mass production vehicle

Also the experience can be tainted by how things are handled by the dealer. If they take it in, say "no problem" go over it with a fine toothcomb fixing every niggle you can find within a few days, whilst giving you a similar hire car, then its not so much hassle

on the other hand, in the nightmare of TVR world, I have lost 2 week old cars back to the factory for 3 months for engine rebuilds with nothing more than a crappy hire car to replace it..most frustrating indeed

everything is relative ....hopefully you can get all the issues addressed, and move on into a lovely ownership experience and get out and enjoy the thing ...a few thousand miles on a touring holiday to get to know the car is what I enjoy the most and would recommend...dont dwell on a bit of loose trim (whatever) , just drive the thing smile

I think you have been unlucky. Not much help I know but I had my DB9 for 5 tears without any major issue and it proved much more reliable than other cars that I have had such as a very crappy X5 which basically had yo go back to the factory with a full refund or even the odd Porsche. Once you sort our your niggles I am sure you'll be on your way. Good luck.
