Was clening my wheels yesterday and found the marks below. Deep black marks that won't shift with wheel cleaner. These wheels were spotless when I got the car a few weeks ago and haven't been left with brake dust on them for any period. What is this stuff and how to I get rid of it? Or is this some kind of damage? Some of it looks like the paint has come off or coroded (maybe) so I need help!

Looks like baked on brake dust to me.
Try something like wonder wheels but only very briefly and make sure you rinse it off very well.

could also try the manual polishing method with a cloth and whatever polish you use on the car...maybe something with a bit of cut like a "paint cleaner" type product ...give it a rub for a few mins, see if that shifts it

...and once you get them clean, get a few coats of wheel wax or polymer sealant on there so it dosent stick again

Get a clay kit, should come right off... Maybe some APC first 1:5 or so... Rinse properly when you're done ! Then wax them

That my friend is tar and baked on brake dust. The bain of any wheel cleaner.

Use a clay bar and a tar remover as necessary and it'll come off. You may have to remove the wheels to do it properly though....
