Hi all,

Im new to the world of Gassing Station but have been reading through posts for weeks. I am interested in spending up to 16k to 20k on a 3.2 DB7 and have a few questions. These may sound a bit basic but I have to start somewhere!!

Firstly would that type of money get me a nice example? I am not too concerned about mileage but of course History would be crucial, are there any well known AM specialists I should talk to first re owning a DB7?

What sort of running costs would I be looking at if i were to be doing around 5000 miles a year???

Apologies for the novice questions, I shall continue to scan through old posts and dig up some info!

Thanks

James.

Hi,

18-20k should get you a nice genuine 3.2 - as they are a bit older most of them are now high milers with over 100k but you will find the lower mileage ones at the higher end of your price bracket. Running costs wholly depend on what chooses to go wrong with the car and whether you are going to get a Dealer to sort it out for you - despite the "ford parts bin" comments a lot of bits and bobs are specifically AM available and not just a trip to the breakers to find a donor. I would budget £2-3k for servicing and minor issues per year if you are going to use a Dealer. I can't comment on the fuel economy for the 3.2 but can say that the 6.0 does "some miles to the gallon" - don't try and work it out beyond that.

Have you made a conscious decision to get a 3.2 or is that a price decision - for a bit more you can get twice the engine: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1713932.htm

Cheers,
Matt.

Thanks for the advice... I had gone for the 3.2 to get the better end of the range rather than a slightly cheaper V12. Also running costs had been a factor, obviously im not trying to put 18000 miles a year on the car as a daily hack but did want some driving between fill ups and would have thought servicing costs would be less on the 3.2??

cheers

James.

I believe these guys are well respected.

I would strongly recommend taking a look on the DB7 section of the AMOC forum ...
http://www.amoc.org/forum/index.php?board=9.0#head...

There is a also a link on there to what appears to be a collection of previous "advice on buying a DB7" type threads:

There are quite a few knowledgeable DB7 owners in the owners club. You could try contacting your local area to see when their next meeting.

Alternatively if you aren't in a hurry, take a trip up to Chatsworth House, near Chesterfield, for the Autumn Concours on Sunday 10th October. It is usually very well attended and there will be no end of DB7s in attendance!

Hmmm, if you are concerned about running costs then I hope you don't get dissapointed. Granted the engines are different but the labour rates are the same for a service, tyres cost much the same and all the "non engine" bits will be much the same cost too. Thus far the odd things that have needed attention on ours have been all "non engine" parts, albeit I am confident I shall get the five oclock shocker for a suite of coil packs at some point. No real idea on the MPG of the 3.2 but if for arguments sake it is 25mpg then you will be costing £1050 to do 5000 miles, compared to £1550 for 17mpg (reckon we get about that from the V12) over the same distance - £500 over a year should not be a major buying decision if you are going for an Aston IMO as that is way less than a set of tyres smile

Either way, good luck in your search for the right one for you smile
