Anybody see the article in Top Gear this month reporting from America that Aston has totally lost the plot with brand development by joining up with Nike to produce Aston special edition trainers.Sounds like the cygnet was not a one off and the brand is on a suicide mission.Oh dear

They're just going down the same path as the other major brands, they're probably seeing the money Ferrari and Porsche are making and want a piece of the action. They should all bloody well stick to cars.

John.

A real shame. The Cygnet is worse than the shoes.

Whats wrong with Aston trainers.......its all about brand awareness........normal everyday branding.....I thought the Cygnet was about Aston reducing their average CO2 per car score which every car maker needs to do

Ah, so the branded Nike trainers are also a clever ploy to reduce CO2 by incouraging AM owners to jog to work wink

Old story but:

"ASTON MARTIN, the car manufacturer renowned for its glamorous James Bond image, is to stop selling "sex and bondage" accessories after incurring the wrath of one of the company's straightlaced US owners."

OK so this entire industry that has grown up around defining and protecting your brand is coblers - you just add your name to any product and take the cash ?
Sounds like a view propounded by Gerald Ratner - before he trashed the company by devaluing his product.
Is there anything you would not add an Aston log to ?

IMO, the Cygnet is worse because these various other things are pieces of clothing, which are far outside the core product -- cars. I don't like Aston shoes/boxers,etc., but at least none of those is a car. The shoes aren't Aston Martins. Nor is the jacket. On the other hand, the Cygnet is intended to be sold as an Aston Martin (if it is all about CO2, then badge it as something -- anything -- else). Until the Cygnet, every Aston Martin was extremely desirable and special (flawed though some of them were -- different issue). The Cygnet is a car. Atrociously, by "virtue" of sticking the iconic and legendary AM grille and badge (oh, and a leather interior probably comparable to those leather boxer shorts) onto a Toyota econobox, it becomes an Aston Martin. That unequivocally changes what an Aston Martin is, and that will cause more damage to the marque than clothing ever could.

agree the cygnet is an embarrassment but i am equally offended by branded clothing.if you can't drive your car right up to the bar and shout your drinks order out of the window for all to see then no problem!!!....just park up in a prominent place outside the pub and climb out in your aston racing jacket and logo stitched polo shirt!!this way anyone who didn't see you jump off your steed in the car park will know for damn sure you are an aston man anyway

I can understand the Cygnet - theyve got no choice, thanks to the green religion nutters

but putting your brand on all sorts of cheap stuff so everywhere you go kids are wearing it ....mmm...Im not so sure

Id buy a chest wig, medallion, something red and Italian if thats what I was interested in wink

did Magnum PI wear Nikey ? is that where its heading?

if its all about "the brand" they need to take more care of it IMO

If they really need to sell something like the Cygnet, they surely do NOT need to call it an Aston Martin, nor do they need to desecrate the name, badge and grille by pasting them onto a Toyota. Create a new brand name, with a new badge and grille, and let the Aston Martin name/badge/grille continue to adorn only highly desirable, special cars while still selling something to lower the average CO2.
