Should i sell through Pistonheads/Autotrader, Aston Dealer or is there some other route?
Its an unusual colour Vesuvius orange so don't know if this will effect the resale value.

Any advice appreciated

Noooooooooo. Now go and look at your car again, then chastise yourself for drinking so early in the day and posting rubbish on this forum.

Seriously, if its not too personal why are you selling? I happen to think it is one of the lovliest around.
The colour is stunning.

You could try sale or return through a main dealer. I sold my 1st TVR this way, it took all the hassle away and only cost me £1,000 fee on a very good price. The dealer made on arranging the finance.

I prefer sale or return too - its like the halfway house, between private and trade in price wise, and someone else has all the hassle

I used Driven Image last time I sold a car - I mucked around for a month on the trader etc, taking calls, answering questions etc then got fed up...it sold in 3 days when they got it, and the cash was in the bank a few days later

I called almost every Aston Dealer in the country and spoke to their buyers - one came the following day, monies deposited in account and I made £1600 profit wink

I used Andy Douglas to help me sell my DB9 Vol privately after he was recommended by another Aston owner .... worked extremely well

I ended up selling mine to an AM dealer, tried to sell myself but it seems the vast majority of buyers want the reassurance of buying off AM and are willing to pay accordingly.

most people want finance is the main reason IMO ....the number of people wandering around with £50-80K in cash is even more rare than those that can afford it on the knock wink

I can provide finance and put this on the ad when I was trying to sell the car but still never got a serious enquiry.

As a private buyer my main concern is a warranty. Either an existing one with a decent amount of time left or an inspection carried out so that a warranty is just a matter of money being paid. Is there a time limit to get a warranty once you have had an AM inspection?

Surely it is worth a PH advert for a week or two. Good photos and information are essential and limits what a caller will ask. Then get ready for the will u take £x,000s less for cash wasters.

If going for 'sale or return', make sure you go with someone you think you can trust.

I tried to sell my TVR a few years back on sale or return. We agreed a final price, which was just a bit less than what I'd get for a private sale so was happy. Didn't have much interest for a few weeks then the dealer rang to say he had someone interested - only then did the dealer say that the car needed £2500 worth of work doing to it in order to sell!

This wasn't something I agreed to as the cost of the work in my opinion was excessive and not necessary.... it was very obvious that the dealer was trying to expand his profit margin. I didn't agree to the work and so exercised my right to the "return" part of the deal only to find that he'd already carried out some of the work without my authority. After a fair amount of arguing I ended up driving the car away after paying for just the parts that the dealer had replaced (filters/oil etc).

Ended up selling privately a few weeks later and the new owner was more than happy with putting up with one slightly scratched alloy and 2 small stonechips.

I hit the bid at the dealer last week. Private sell is more hassle than I could face, and past experience of sale/return (admittedly a few years ago) was that you still get the phone calls with silly offers. Probably did not get the best price I could have this way, but at least it's done and dusted, and you can move on.
