Custom Valve Caps
Discussion
Hey guys
Mrs Monty and I took our first proper trip recently in the new (to us) car - we had an awesome time driving down to Cannes for a week before driving all the way back. Car was fantastic and we had an amazing time. The only thing that put a slight dampener on it was that some scumbag stole all my valve caps!
Now, I've got replacement ones, the standard AM ones from Rick (thanks Rick!) but now that I have them I realise that the ones I had were clearly different, and I actually really liked them. So - anyone know of a place that makes Aston-Martin branded valve caps other than AM themselves?
The caps I used to have were much chunkier, with a octagonal or decoganal (even a word?) kind of shape with the AM logo on top - not just printed or painted, but sticking up (sorry, don't know the technical metalworking term!) in metal. Also, they had what I now realise are anti theft 'bits' that you could tighten up with a small screwdiver or similar to prevent this exact occurrence happening. I foolishly didn't think about doing them up, more fool me!
Any help appreciated
Ben
PS - am working on a bit of a log of the trip, we took some awesome photos so will try and put a post together on here soon, along with a route & recommendations - we found a couple of excellent excellent roads to test the car out on!

If you fit metal ones, make sure you put something on the threads before putting them on (copperslip or vaseline etc).
I believe Aston do them, BUT there's this great new web site which helps locate stuff. Daft name (Google), and the colours aren't for everyone. But it works every time

1st, 3rd and possibly the last set listed there can be problematic.
I bought some for the Jag we have and the logo's fly off after a few days.
They are self adhesive and the glue just weakens allowing the logo's to come off.
I had to carefully remove the glue and then use super glue on them to ensure they remained on.
Also the ones I bought claimed to be brass threaded so wouldn't corrode and ended up using pliers to remove after a few weeks as they had corroded on... NOT BRASS.
So, if you get some.. re-glue the logos and as stated above use a little copper grease on the threads.
The last set look good, locking and with sleeves.

Thanks for the responses - I did do the old google and ebay searches, but none of the ones I found (same ones posted above) were the same as my old ones - hence the question wondering if anyone specifically makes them. I have already bought one set of the Aston Martin branded ones but prefer the stolen ones. They definitely weren't just 'stick on' badges on a standard valve cap - they looked like proper custom built embossed pieces of work. Will keep looking....I believe Aston do them, BUT there's this great new web site which helps locate stuff. Daft name (Google), and the colours aren't for everyone. But it works every time
DONT buy any ebay ones unless they are genuine AM I had a set of ebays finest on my CLS55 and they were so stuck onto my valves it cost me hundreds as I had to have new sensing valves.
I got Strats Wilmslow to put a set of genuine ones on when it was in and they did - and they come off - and they look (ed) lovely
So get your dealer to supply them and if your cars in then get them to fit them as they will lube the thread

Metal valve caps can often cause issues. Wheels are a harsh environment and different metals (valve and cap) can react oddly.
As long as the cap has the right thread (should be easy to tell - just don't force them onto the valve. Should be able to get them on easily with fingers) and you pop on some suitable lube most should be fine.
I *think* someone on here had OE caps seize on one wheel...

If you'd read my original post you'd have seen that I have already bought the standard aston martin valve caps...Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
