LeHavre to La Rochelle, any route suggestions?

Only time I've ever done it I was in a rush, so stuck to autoroutes - which are quick but not much fun. And as I recall there were a lot of speed traps on them.
Orleans and Blois aren't a million miles out of your way, and are nice places to visit with some nice back roads around them. I guess Le Mans would be a must too

Be careful around the port at Le Havre. The locals have a special way of not being very welcoming to British tourists coming off the boat as far as letting them join the traffic goes.
