Hi folks, my wifes Vantage V8 has some problems with the tank cover.
I greased it which worked for a few times but now the problem is back. It seem like the travel of the magnet is
just not enough. Before grinding some material away I thought I ask here if that is a common ?

thanks

i take it your talking about the petrol flap? if so here goes, the v8's do suffer from this but rectification is relatively easy and is most likely covered under warranty.its either a problem with the hinge pin,or usually it turns out that the gas strut isn't strong enough and needs to be substituted with one of a higher rating, like i said possibly warranty so best to speak to your local dealer first.

yes Mine was fixed, under warranty, after finally remembering to mention it when the car went in for servicing recently. It seems strange not to have to open the boot and pull the emergency release any more.

there is no gas strut just a a bended piece of metal that works as a spring, but this is not really the problem, more likely the release pin that is not retracting full travel because of too high friction, maybe I have to minimize the spring force

thanks

in which case you have a coupe, and as such there is no official 'fix' as such, other than adjustment

ok the fix is to bend the aluminium bracket that holds the wire so that the release pin is already pre pulled back, that means less friction and less travel necessary.

thanks guys

I can now confirm that this has fixed the issue, my wife reports the tank cover is opening every time now.
