Hi all,
This was my 3rd upgrade (after AM Power Pack & Milltek Sports cats).

Location
Paramount Performance : www.paramount-performance.com
Tel : 01753 533633

Work
Removal of OEM ECU.
Flash update of ECU from a 3rd party source.
Re-fitting of ECU.
Dyno run.
Cost: c.£700

Results
Good!
The car certainly felt a touch quicker with stronger acceleration above 4000rpm.
Throttle response also improved.
I'd estimate the gains at an extra 12-15 bhp with a 10-12 lbft rise in max torque.
The majority of the torque increase is held from 4000rpm right through to well over 6000rpm, which is certainly noticeable.

Summary
A note of caution regarding Paramount's claimed performance improvement figures!!
There'll be more detail on this on my other thread "V8 Vantage tuning (SLINC) - Dyno results".
Suffice to say their Base Power reading was rather spurious (lower than other dyno runs I'd had at Surrey Rolling Road)and the post ECU upgrade figure seemed inordinately high - again when compared to subsequent runs at both SRR and TDI.
Is it worth it?
I'd say it is but I reckon that a real-time live mapping would provide better results.
Comments on this forum from "Bogie" baack up this view.
However I'm unsure if such an option actually exits!!?
Any feedback on this would be VERY welcome!

Id be real interested to know who/which 3rd party source has hacked the AM ECU ...surely they could have a good market doing custom remaps ....rather than generic tweaks via another "tuning" company...unless its come guy in his bedroom who used to work for the ECU manufacturer and they dont want it public....I know some good ex Bosch guys who have done all my Audis in the past....in real time...driving along with a laptop plugged in ....

I guess Ive spent thousands over the years on "tuning" and been to many rolling roads over the years, which has made me more cynical than most about the car "tuning" world wink

..usually, a custom remap, on your engine, with your mods, is the best way forward......but top effort mate for trying whats out there and reviewing it for us...someones got to be first ! smile

My pleasure Bogie!!

PS, Mark at TDI mentioned you when I was there yesterday (New air filters being fitted! God, when will it END!? eek).
Complimented you on being a thoroughly nice guy but that you'd had a horrific accident not so long back! Hope all still ok ??

Im doing ok thanks ...I should be back at work full time in June ...I was in a coma for 3 weeks in intensive care from Jan 2008, 25 fractures, over 3 months in hospital and back another 3x since, 12 operations to date....so yeah it was pretty bad frown

Im not quite as quick on my feet these days, and have more metalwork than Barry Sheene, but I can walk and drive ok which is the important bit smile

TDI had done some work for me on my old Elise back in late 2007 ...top blokes, I wouldnt hesitate to recommend them or use them for work again ....Im kinda hoping they get into the Aston ECU and can offer upgrades one day smile

FOOKIN' 'ELL!
That sounds unbelievably awful.
I guess with a smash that bad then you must simply feel it's a miracle you're still around...

I'll keep lobbying TDI to do something about developing an ECU upgrade (& supercharger of course, smile )

yes...I have a different outlook on life these days smile

keep lobbying them - a real supercharger upgrade that works, backed by a bullet proof warranty would be a good seller im sure ...personally I didnt fancy the sound of the other one that came out, with a dodgy map, £20K and 3 month parts warranty (whatever) ...didnt give me a lot of confidence ! ...

...now at £10K and 12 months no quibble engine warranty would be more like it ....I mean people are bolting chargers onto 4 pots for £5k, so 2x the cylinders surely cant be more than double ! wink

Is this the same remap that Paramount Performance have just quoted me
£850 + vat. They are saying 35bhp increase and up to + 80nm torque
I am considering it as a cheaper option than the Factory 400 bhp upgrade Ive been offered. Any of you boys got any further reports or thoughts.
Any would help my decision making. By the way mines an 06 4.3l V8 Vantage
Cheers
Simon

I think you can guess that the factory option of + 20bhp actually delivers ...it uses different airboxes AND a remap, from the guys that did it originally

Maybe tell the other suppliers you are not paying the bill unless you can take it to a rolling road of your choice (not theirs) before and after, and if you dont see + 35bhp, you wont be paying ...then see how confident they are with their claims wink

...queue lots of bull*hit excuses about the reliability of "other" rolling roads.....

...there are people on here with the AM upgrade, sports cats, exhausts AND remaps that have just about got a +35bhp gain....

Its very easy to get carried away with BHP gains. It depends where these 'gains' are- it can be very high up the rev range ( as is the case with the prodrive conversion) and with remaps I would want to be sure that fueling and advance were correct for the long term. Far to many 'correction' factors on rolling roads to get a true picture

In this regard, the factory conversion is superb, I had mine done a few months ago and it is a transformation in the way the car drives rather than outright 'power'

Throttle lag is removed, more urgency throughout the rev range- not just above 4 K and a different exhaust note as well. The best money you can spend

yes, I agree....far better to have 10bhp everywhere than 20bhp at the top end......and the factory upgrade is spot on for what it does and the way that it does it...far more so than the fudging offered by some other (expensive) conversions

I will be interested to see what SLINC has got before/after on the TDI rolling road.....I know the guys down there, they dont do bulls*it wink
