So, today I misplaced/lost the little leather pouch that holds my key/fob or whatever you call it. Spoke to dealer service who said no problem to replace, it will be around £50/£60.
Now I am not tight but for crying out loud, its a very small pouch. I was thinking maybe a tenner.
I could probably get one for a Zippo lighter which will do the job equally as well. Has anyone had to source a replacement as a quick Google cant find said article.
Sorry but I cannot see the justification for that sort of money.

Seems pretty crazy indeed - I was of the understanding the the crystal key was £60 and I had assumed it would come with a leather wallet! Are you sure thats right - even by AM standards thats expensive...

The whole key thing is a bit of a joke. I don't mind the function of the Aston glass key too much, but I am very nervous about dropping it when it will cost £600 to replace! A triumph of style over practicality. The spare key is better in some ways - more durable and does not need a pouch - could do with a logo though. I agree £60 for the pouch is daylight robbery, it too could do with an embossed logo of some kind to at least make it appear to be worth the money being asked for it. Even Porsche would be ashamed to ask that amount for such a small bit of leather!

I believe I read on here, or somewhere that the Crystal key is around £1,500 to replace. Thats why mine has never been out of the cupboard. This may be fiction or my mis-reading after several vino's. I always use the cheapy versions.

I never understood why AM didn't adopt the Mercedes "keyless-go" system after severing ties with Ford ... a simple slim credit card that lives in your wallet and allows you to unlock/lock the car by just touching the handle as well as start it just by pressing "Start"

I never did get one when I got the key to start with. Given your quote I suspect it would cost at least $100 to buy here in the US, so I probably won't bother since I never use that key anyway.

With my BMW, I don't even need as card. Having the key in my pocket is enough. The door opens when I touch the handle and it starts with a presso fthe start button. The key never leaves my pocket.

That is utterly ridiculous for a simple piece of leather. The glass key is nice but it is more trouble than its worth. Would suggest a local seamstress could easily make you one for peanuts.

Just thought I would update this as my dealer rang me yesterday with the pouch price. Not £50/60 as he first thought.... Wait for it... Are you sitting down?... £95 yikes

Unless he has made a mistake, this is insane.

I think there is starting to be created a market for having these produced in China at a 3rd of the price. I see a group buy coming up. My key pouch has become so loose that the key slips out quite easily and as the key doesn't bounce too well on asphalt the bill could get higher very soon.

omg you are joking! £600 for the crystal key!!!!! Ive already dropped mine two or three times and have chipped a small piece of the corner but I had it down as being £60 to replace (no idea why I thought it was that much) so whilst it seemed a lot for basically a remote control I wasnt fretting! I am now!

Thought I would just clarify what is available and the retail prices these price do include the vat

The key can come complete at £1005.26 and would require programming at additional cost
the crystal piece and cage is available separately which is £743.11
the remote piece is £378.90 and would require programming to the car
the silver bit is £235.45
the leather pouch both for the DBS and others is £92.79

Bugger me. That's expensive.

The key irritates the hell out of me. I can only hope that they are looking to integrate keyless go into the next MY.

Hang on - the sapphire crystal key is for the DBS only (and maybe V12V not sure) - the others have a glass key. You can feel the weight difference in your hand. AM cannot possibly charge 1k for both sapphire and glass? Btw I had to buy a DBS pouch at 80 quid - the salesman was embarrassed. So he should be

It's really nothing special, my Volvo had totally key-less entry & starting and as Volvo was all part of Ford's Premier Automotive Group I could never understand why the 'humble' S80 had what Aston drivers crave and BMW drivers also enjoy.
