This may be well known but if you add a lady friend on to your insurance of a reasonable age (in this case my mum) it brings the premiums down. Managed to get mine from £700 to £550, that's a saving of 2 tanks of petrol, or a return trip to Cornwall.

Go on to one of the insurance collation websites and give it a go

Very strange isn't it? In the process of renewing my insurance, so checked it out. You are right if I remove Aston Annie off the quote it goes up by ~£100pa!

But then I've just saved myself ~£150 with the existing insurance company by checking their renewal quote online. Cheeky bar stewards will be getting a call from me tomorrow asking them to explain why.

I've had the same thing for the last couple of years - I was originally insured with Norwich Union and phoned them for a renewal price.

Looked for a cheaper quote online for that year through Confused (or similar) saved around £130 too with a different insurer, only to find that my policy was still underwritten by Norwich Union !

Did the same this year, saved money again, different insurer again, and guess what - it's still underwritten by NU !

Go figure !

Hmmmm, but if your mum is 85 would it have the reverse effect?

Note to self...I must get my 90 year old mum added to the quote. I think he has at least a 40 year no claims record...!

My mum is 70 and fairly scared of the car. Getting in it for the first time she said.. "oooh, it's like sitting in a little gun turret".

Interestingly my wheel scuffing girlfriend pushed the quote up by £300.

You don't need to put your aged Mum's on the insurance, just the wife / girlfriend. Has two advantages, cheaper insurance and someone to drive the Aston home when you've been drinking
