V8V basic questions (looking to buy)
Discussion
I have a few questions on the V8 Vantages which I was hoping to get some help on. More specifically, I am looking at buying an earlier (06 / 07 year) 4.3 car.
- What are the buttons on the center console by the armrest / bottom of the gearlever? I have seen cars with 2 with 3 and with 4 buttons there, presumably its options, but which ones?
- What is the option that determines the seat stitching down the center of the seats? I have seen some cars with plain cushions and some with a stripe down the middle. Is it just course vs fine stitching?
- For a 2006 car with, say, 20k ish miles is it best to stick to the main dealer network, go specialist (ie: Chilterns Aston, etc) or can I also consider a private buy with inspection and purchase the AM warranty separately?
- Is the AM warranty offered through their approved scheme any good?
- Why are all the cars grey or black! I like bright colours, like Toro red or some of the greens and light blues, are these bad for resale? (Resale is a definite concern)
Thanks for any help!

The buttons on the center console are for the ejector seat and the front machine guns........the seat stitching is just part of the ejector seats....ie the seats without the stiching your safe to sit in as a passenger...........the cars are always grey or black (or silver) because that's what James Bond drives.......have you ever seen him in a red/blue/green Aston !!!!!!!- What are the buttons on the center console by the armrest / bottom of the gearlever? here are answers to some of your questions, although michael's are probably more accurate.
-What are the buttons on the centre console
The buttons on the centre console by the gear leaver vary according to the options specified, but are for the less commonly used functions and include
up to 5 buttons in front of the gear leaver for rear high intensity lights, turning off traction control, hazard warning lights, air recirculation, a/c
and up to 4 buttons behind the gear lever for heated rear screen, turning off the rear parking sensors, disabling the passenger airbag (with the isofix option)
- What is the option that determines the seat stitching down the center of the seats?
Aston Martin have released enhancements to the Vantage V8 from it's launch, roughly every 6 months.
The seat design was changed to the revised seat design as part of the August 2006 changes, and modified the stiching to reduce creasing of the leather.
- For a 2006 car, is it best to stick to the main dealer network?
probably comes down to your opinion on risk. AM Dealer cars will have a higher standard of recourse should anything go wrong, and obviously completing a financial transaction for a high value item will come with
greater peace of mind through the dealer network. There are a number of reputable specialists who will also offer high standards. These levels of service come at a price, and that is part of what you are paying for in the higher cost of the vehicles.
If you go privately, you should always have it inspected. When getting the Aston Martin extended warranty, the car will require an Aston Martin inspection, at about £250, before the warranty is offered.
This is a useful point to consider if the car you are viewing has had a new extended warranty applied.
- Is the AM warranty offered through their approved scheme any good?
best to get some replies from people who have had to claim. Like any insurance, you only really know how good it is when you need it most.
- Why are all the cars grey or black?
Probably because lots of people like them. Mine's black and I love it. Having said that I really like the look of WantanewV12V's Magma Red. That looks absolutely stunning

Hmmm. I am looking at the V8 Vantage, not the Vanquish or DBS. Hope this helps
To the others, thanks for your help. Reason I ask re the buttons is to understand the spec as some adverts leave out some of the details so its useful to understand what is what. Where would there be a switch for heated seats (for the Mrs, of course).
I understand that Bi-Xenons were an option? Is the standard spec halogen or single Xenon?
Re colours, I live in the UK but come from warmer climes, so I miss the bright colours! Seems to be worse than other marques, at least with Ferraris you can be assured a good amount will be red and with Porsches there seems to be a wider range.

Aston owners have tended to be 'traditionalists', hence the multitude of 'inoffensive' colours. I include me in that statement as my first 2 were silver. However, there do seem to be more cars in other colours nowadays. Personally, I don't think the colour affects the resale value unless you need a quick sale. It just takes longer to find the buyer with the same taste as you.I just stopped myself from purchasing an orange car last time round, who knows this time I won't succumb?
Quite keen on Toro red, like this one here for instance:

Although I fear that interior is a no no (if only the dash wasn't so... beige).

I've just bought a "safe" Onyx black with Obsidian black Vantage and will collect on Saturday.
Personally I would like to have had a brighter colour exterior such as Torro red but just couldn't bring myself to accept the Kestrel tan interior especially as it isn't really broken up by a contrasting colour.

hi there I am also new in vantage land, I am going to pick up my late 2007 (2008 spec) v8v roadster sportshift tomorow from the London dealer!I'm afraid to say I will take it with me to Belgium, so that's one less in the UK sorry guys.
It's got an N400 perfomance kit on it and fuse 22 is missing, this should be a very exciting 300 miles drive home!
I will let you know monday if it's been any good
Life will change dramatically I guess

Actually I thought Lazenby did a better job of Bond than Dalton , but Connery remains the Bond of Choice ..........
