The sat nav is actually quite good
Discussion
I know, I have read enough threads on the topic but how many of you have experienced the latest version. I agree with all past comments and have experienced much better Sat Navs from other manufacturers let alone the standalone variants such as Tom Tom.
The image on the latest is significantly better in 3D for starters, better detailing (petrol stations, places of interest, more roads) and the availability of speed camera warnings (a nice camera clicking sound) but it is the other features that also enhance the quality. On my way back from London yesterday the dynamic re-routing took effect with the problems on the M40 and directed me on a cross country route across the cotswolds. It is actually one of my favourite routes so I know it well but its the fact that it guided me on this route that surprised me. Not only that but it identified a short cut on a b-road that I didn't know existed. We all have stories about how random or how long the routes were that would have been chosen by the old system and I found myself rarely listening to the guidance provided. However things are much better now.
I am not going to say that there aren't superior or cheaper systems out there but who wants to put up with wires and recharging and sticking things on mounts or windows etc. The latest incarnation of the sat nav on the Aston is good enough not to criticise it as a weakness IMHO. Anyone seen the rubbish in a Maserati ?

I have a 2010 MY V8 Vantage and I think the sat nav is quite good too. Full post code entry, 3D view, speed camera warnings, petrol stations etc. quick re-routing and the whole of Europe mapping on the hard drive.
It is streets ahead of the system that I had in my Audi.
I think a lot of the journos who do the reviews just jump on the band wagon of slagging off the AM sat nav without actually using it. They assume just because it looks the same, it is the same.
I don't have experience of the earlier versions of the AM satnav, so come to it fresh.

There's been an extensive thread on this on AMOC site. Full postcode seems to be available with the Volvo disc's, but I didn't think the TMC worked in the Vantage?.. something to do with having to retune to the correct FM station. I can't remember exactly, has this now been resolved?

I can only speak for the V12V - TMC works. I did not have any of the features that I have mentioned above with my N400. I would assume that the new system is in all new cars.WantanewV12V said:
