Hi All,

I'm about to move over from Porsche to Aston and have some questions for the experts - I collect it in a few days time.

I've been offered something called 'DiamondBrite' - this seems to be some sort of detailing / protection for the paintwork. Has anyone had it done and would they recommend it ? Its about £500.

Has anyone any experience of the Euro Watch tracking system fitted to Aston's ? It seems like many other tracking systems. However what sounds neat, is the ability to use your Bluetooth phone as a 'transponder' so you don't need to carry the normal 'fob' with you.

Finally, does anyone have a Roadster that lives out doors all year ? I don't think my garage is wide enough to get it in !

cheers

Simon

wouldnt bother with Diamondbrite - its just a £15 bottle of sealant put on my some dealer monkeys

for £300 you could have the car professionally detailed and ask them to use some sealant instead of wax, and have a much better finish

the only type of paint coating Ive had that does what it says on the tin, is from www.gtechniq.com

Its the same stuff used on yachts and aircraft, and they actually paint correct and detail your car first, rather than just slapping it on top of whatever is there

cant help with the other questions as my coupe just has the regular tracker

have fun smile

Had it on mine Simon from new although £500 seems very steep. As I recall it was closer to £300 so if you do have it then negotiate. I'd recommend it if you don't have much time for cleaning the car as a quick shampoo and leather is all that's needed once applied. You can still wax over it if you so wish but tbh you'd need a pretty sharp eye to notice the difference in the finish. Another consideration is whether you use the car daily, come rain or shine. If it doesn't see much of the former then I wouldn't bother.

I was an advocate of the AM tracking system when it was first installed. Worked just like Nav Trak I'd had installed in a previous car. I've since changed my mind caused mainly because of the lack of support from the AM Tracking team. If your 'fobs' run low on power, which they will, then, unlike NavTrak, you are required to visit the nearest dealer to get them replaced and paired with the car. I haven't got round to pairing the system up with the phone but, on a positive note, that could be the solution....at least until your battery dies on the phone!

The system works brilliantly if you have it paired with a BT phone. Since switching to this method over the fobs, I've never had an issue with AM Tracking and it just works seemlessly.

interesting replies about the pain protection. i must admit, I would rather spend a nice sunny sunday detailing it myself. (i've got all the gear to do it) so £300 will buy me a lot of new products :-) cleaning our toys as well as driving them is part of the ownership fun :-) i'm not convinced it will fit in the garage as its possibly too wide (my 911 only just fitted) - but i'm sure it will survive outside.

i think you've helped me make my mind up about the tracker. i'll use it with my phone. i'm going to be using the bluetooth phone integration anyway. i always have my phone on me - and the number of times I've forgotten my porsche VTS fobs is not good. it gives me next to naff all insurance discount, but its good peace of mind if someone nicks it...i stand a good chance of getting it back.

out of interest roughly how long will it survive standing still on the battery without it going flat ?

battery life varies on weather, tracker etc ...but 3-4 weeks seems to be no probs. Not ideal regularly though, so get a battery conditioner and leave it plugged in for long periods

i've got the porsche charger, (ctek) so that will be almost identical to the aston one. I used it recently with the bad weather - as I wasn't driving the 911 so much. its great for just topping up the battery. I've got the builders coming soon, maybe they can modify the doors to the garage :-)

How wide is your garage? Didn't think the V8V would fit in mine (1930's integrated garage, that can't be extended) when i first got it, its a squeeze getting past the opening (mirrors in job) but OK once past the opening.

I would agree with this comment....if you really want it then its available for about £100 by a good detailer.

Enjoy your new toy.... and we need pictures smile

Indeed, the Aston conditioner is also a rebranded CTEK unit, with a cigarette lighter socket plug, which hooks up via a socket in the boot (although you may already know that!)

£500! You're kindding! I have been approached by DB direct to see if they can appear on my web, and, for me to promote and use their products. £35 to buy the standard kit from them, and charge £199+! Application by valeters at/and dealerships is poor, too. I took a kit from the rep, and, have been trying it on the family bus here at home (with the correct clay and machine cleanse stages first). I'm still not impressed.

For that money, you can get yourself a full paint correction detail with interior and leather care.

Also, they claim to give "6 years paint protection" - thats impossible. They can say this as, every other wash, they reccomend you add their 'conserver' to a wash bucket (which can damage black plastics and streak windows..) It's just the same as you signing up to a maintenance contract with a deatiler who visits you on a monthly/quarterly basis. At least this way you *should* have peace of mind that they're doing a good job.

needless to say, I didn't go for the 'paint protection' :-)

I also didn't want an Aston charger...when my porsche one (i fell for that trick once before at Porsche - CTEK=Porsche=Aston !) will do the job !

Yep, will put up pictures as soon as I pick it up. It will be around the 12th Feb.
