"Check Tyres" warning light
Discussion
I have just had this warning flash up on the dash as I was parking the car tonight. I have looked around the car and the tyres appear to be in good shape. The car has only done 11k miles, and has been treated well (no track days etc). I restarted the engine and on the restart the warning popped up again. Any idea what the problem is? Faulty sensor or something really wrong?? If there was a puncture would it not tell me what wheel etc?
many thanks in advance for any advice

depends on the last time you checked the tyre pressures and what the ambient temperature was ...in winter you need a few more psi in, just to maintain what you had in summer ..when its borderline, the warning will go off after a few miles and the air in the tyres starts to warm up
if it stays on for a while, then check it - I did mine recently, and they were 3psi down since last autumn..

A large nail had gone through the back tyre. I took it to Kwik Fit and they managed to fix it for £18...
however (perhaps inevitably) they said that i would need a new set of tyres... Total cost £815...
The car has only done 11,000 well cared for miles so i am slightly surprised it needs a new set of tyres. Is this an unusually low mileage? If not, is the price reasonable?
thanks again!

mmm...11K miles out the rears, if you drive hard, with the odd track day ...yeah..easy to do ...(that was my first set!)
...but no, with normal road use I would expect more like 15-18K out of the rears, and 20-25K out of the fronts ...depends on driving style really
can you not check the tyres yourself? there are wear markers at 2mm ..they only have to be 1.6mm across 75% of the width to be legal ...although to be fair, I tend to change mine at about 2mm as they do get pretty poor, especially in the wet

You can't (should not) repair nail punctures so regardless of the state of the tyre you should get a new set. And praise yourself lucky for the fact that it took you so long to get a punctyre. I am on my 3rd set of tyres during less than 3000 miles as I have had a nail in the tyers twice due to builders at home. I bought a magnetic sweeper which so far has soleved the problem.

y rated tyres although not illegal to do so, and bridgestone for one do not state they can not be repaired, many tyre manufactures recommend that they are not repaired, up to a 6mm hole in the centre two thirds is permissible, but there will be a risk of tread separation distortion etc, not something I would advise especially if the car is used for a more spirited drive,Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
