If you had a base car of an 06 plate 4.3 V8 and a budget of £10,000 to spend on the car what would you do with the money? Don't want anything too bonkers! Thoughts please!

Tubi exhaust, iPod connectivity.

Trouser the other 8k or so and spend it on tyres, fuel, insurance. Etc

Upgrade the engine with one of these:

Your funds should cover the shipping and handling cost and I'd love to see the 0-60 time on it.

Is the AM sportpack power enhancement worthwhile? I looked at it a while back and while the black inlet manifold does look quite cool, 20bhp on top of 380bhp seemed a bit like a mouse raping an elephant.

I should explain a bit more about my motivation. I love the whole Aston Martin experience, the sound, handling, looks and the whole feel of driving it. But sometimes I want more brutal performance. I remember driving a 997 turbo and when the turbo is blowing and you floor it in 2nd or 3rd it's mental bonkers acceleration.

I could of course go and buy a 997 turbo but the problem is that it's a Porsche.

So I wonder if there's anything that can be done within a reasonable budget to make a 4.3 V8V have more grunt that's not going to be squandered. I would expect that any non-Aston Martin enhancements would not be reflected in the residual value and I'm not keen on pouring money away. Hence the statement - "save for a 4.7" does make sense. Is there a sportspack for the 4.7?

Performance Upgrade Options:

1. Prodrive Upgrade to approx 425bhp - £4495
2. Paramount Performance Upgrade to approx 435bhp - £4840 + vat
3. Derby Motors Services upgrades similar costs and performance to the above

Check out the above websites for Vantage V8 Enhancements

My V8 has had the AM 20bhp upgrade - £2025 + K&N Airfilters fitted - £240, next is the Super cats for around £1600 in May - Just under £4k in total.

Perhaps Paramount Performance can take up your challenge and prove what they are advertising?

Good idea.

However, this topic has been raised on here a number of times and I'm not sure I ever saw anyone proving it.

In fact, there was a thread on AMOC which, from memory, went some way to demonstrating that this sort of BHP claim is usually fantasy island stuff.

Happy to be proven wrong.

I'm not an engineer or anything like but do you dispute all of the claims made (prodrive included) or just the Paramount performance claim?

From your tone I guess you know something I don't about this topic?? Care to share the knowledge?

I dont think the EVO review of their other product helped ...didnt sound very professional to me ...pinch and salt sprung to mind wink

getting 40bhp with a remap on a turbodiesel is one thing, but an aspirated V8 ...mmm...Im sure if it was so easy AM would have just done that themselves ...

I've set up a few test drives of a V12 but with the weather recently the dealers have cancelled, so not been able to make up my mind on that option.

I really wanted a V12 when I thought it would have 600bhp and a dry sump but with a stock DBS engine I am a bit more 'try it and see'.

For £110k for a pretty much new V12 I'd have to see a lot of bang to make up for the bucks, hence wondering if there was a middle path.

I was thinking about:
AM power upgrade
alcantara steering wheel
sports pack suspension
carbon fibre/kevlar seats from V12 (I have heard "no" and "maybe" about whether these can be retro-fitted to a V8)
if/when the clutch goes getting the DMS clutch that Rick & Stuart Dickinson have been discussing on another thread.

It's actually an RSC (Racing Sport Concepts) product. We're very happy to have Rick as one of our partners/retailers.
