it is on some early models, and it was a service item under warranty, I had mine done at the 6K service 3 years ago and its been fine since

a change to the later gear oil and also some kendall additive will improve things, as mentioned there is an upgrade to the mechanism as well, unfortunately now most of the cars that have the issue are out of the warranty,

Mines the same however AM will not cover this under extended warranty, even though its a known issue!

Mine was so bad I sold the car after two weeks! Took a real slating on here for doing so (although no-one told me it was a known issue!). Mine was an 07 plate..

mine is marked in the service history book that its been done ....if buying one again, i would double check this, and if its not done, insist that it is done before delivery and save the hassle later

I cant believe that an extended warranty does not cover this stuff - its virtually "recall" type work on service bulletins

Id get in touch with Aston customer care, as it sounds to me the extended warranty isnt worth the paper its written on frown

The mod was by request only and it was not well known at the time, with many told it was normal, also by the time the dealer looked at the car the box was normally warm and so the fault not evident,

Just for reference the parts to carry out the mod are £325.00 including vat and the additive I mentioned and the later spec oil, labour is about 2.5 hours so i would estimate a total cost of £500.00 to around £850.00 depending on who carries out the mod, still talk to your dealer it is a known concern,

I had the mod on my 56 plate 07 car, but still wasn't happy... eventually I got a new gearbox which has much improved things smile

I spent a year sorting this and other warranty issues with the car back and forward to the dealer so many times that I think they drove more miles in it than me in 2009.

The car is now great, but it was a real battle of attrition getting it all sorted... hopefully this year it will spend more time with me than with the dealer LOL.

I've got a 2008/08 and its snaggy to get into 2nd until warm (takes 5-10 minutes). Thought this was supposed to be an issue on earlier cars only?

Luckily my warranty is valid until the end of Jan so will get it sorted this week.

Thanks for all of the replies.

the mod was issued april 2007, and was up to vin C04876, the oil is due to be replaced at the 4 year 40000 mile service, insist on the kendall oil additive being used it's abot £15.00 and the later oil is used not the standard,

I am sure you will notice the difference, it will also protect the box and coat the gears,

Reference the Warranty i am hearing more and more it is being refused to be done by dealers, as it is an extended warranty against failure of components which they have not failed and the mod is only an improvement, and the issue should have been sorted within the first 12 months if the fault was evident,

My 2008/09 car had a terrible gearbox and was replaced at about 1500miles, however it's still very stiff and clunky when cold... could this be the same thing or something else?

This morning was very cold and my gearchange was stiff for the first mile or so. Then it was buttery smooth. The car wasn't that cold when I set off becasue it is garaged.

I think there is a change to the linkage as well an oil change if the dealer takes this on.

Contacted the dealer this morning, waiting for a response from Aston warranty.

the oil change and and additive can be done easily, where as the complete mod does require a lever change on top of the gearbox, so removal of the transaxle is required, and also a mod at the gearstick end to aid reverse gear location,

My car has had the mod of the oil and changes to gearbox linkage and is normally ok, but in the recent really cold weather the gearbox has taken ages to warm up and loosen up. It feels like the oil is very sticky when cold and only becomes runny when hot. Another good reason to take it out and drive it!
