frivolous question but hey it's the holidays.

I've had the V8 now for a year and even on deserted Mways at 5am have had no chance of getting anywhere near its potential - a spell in pokey if caught doesn't really appeal. Don't want to go to Germany - so does anyone know of any airfields/tracks where (critically) there is a long enough stretch to get close to warp speed?

Yeah several, it'll cost you, do a search for V-max etc...

Not sure the VMax track will be long enough to get to VMax...

Me and a few others will be driving down that way next year going from the ring to Davos, Switzerland taking in as much of the Autobahn as possible.

I have had a company harassing me for months about trackdays etc, offering discounted rates, So is this something i should pursue perhaps a DMS track day i presume there will be a minimum requirement of numbers, If this is of interest pm me and I will make more enquiries, could even have a best driver, fastest top speed, fastest lap trophy,

Sounds like a good idea Rick. Having the peace of mind of technical expertise whilst doing a track day makes it much more tempting. So if you're serious about a DMS track day, you can put my name down immediately.

I also think it's a good idea, though don't use the V8 on track having a Caterham.

I suspect you might have difficulties with the "fastest driver/lap" etc and insurance...

do a trackday somewhere like Bedford, at least you can usually get up to about 150mph ish before the chicane on the back straight ...otherwise, a touring holiday around Europe, taking in some unrestricted autobahns

bow Blimey, if you managed that I take my hat off to you. I did Bedford in my (slightly modded) Griff 500 and although I know from experience an Elise can out handle a Griff on the track but in the straight high-speed sprint out of the corner prior to that straight I'd doubt there's much in it, if anything I'd expect to out accelerate the Lotus but the best I could manage was 135mph because the faster I went the closer I was to the chicane and harder I had to brake which gave me quite a moment! It was impossible to go much quicker... eek

Take it to Bruntingthorpe. If you can`t do it there you won`t do it anywhere, with a 2 mile runway to play with.

Coincidentally I've done a day at Millbrook with Aston Martin when the V8V was launched but neither on the mile long straight or the bowl did we get to maximum.

yeah, opening it up and seeing some high speed on the dial is one thing, extracting the last 10-15mph out of it takes a long time and a long bit of road. The only place Ive seen near the top speed was early one morning on an unrestricted autobahn and even then I got fed up of waiting, 172mph was the most I saw on the speedo which was 168mph on the GPS.

Nothing exciting really, and once youve done it once and seen the fuel computer showing just a few MPG, you soon realise that its much quicker to get where you are going, by driving around 100-120mph, otherwise you spend far too long in fuel stations LOL wink
