Having a bit of a blonde moment as to what is the best way to go.
My renewal comes out at either £1,000 with £700 excess or £1350 with £500 excess.
Which is the best option or can anyone suggest an alternative. Need to act swiftly.

Thanks

Di

Depends if you plan to have an accident!

As Mr Eastwood famously said: 'How lucky do you feel?'

(bear in mind that insurance premiums are calculated such that ATBE you lose and they win)

If you've got a good/lucky history of avoiding accidents and the extra few quid on the excess is no problem in the event that your luck runs out take the cheaper option. Actually, £350 off for an extra £200 excess seems a good deal, as long as you don't have more than 1 fault claim.

Assuming all other things to do with the quote are the same (underwriter, terms etc) then I'd go for the lower premium/higher xs.

You can practically have two claims before you'd be significantly worse off. And how many times have you had to claim more than twice in a year?

(If the answer to that questions is "lots", I'd be surprised you got insured at all!)

Thanks guys. In your opinion is what I have been quoted about par for the course? I have just finished a top up from my previous insurance so no idea what to expect on a fresh policy. Despite having performance cars they were not in this price bracket which must be taken into consideration.

Depends where you're based, how many miles, driving record, age etc.

The one with 500 xs potentially looks toppy to me.

Agreed. The insurer appears to be encouraging you towards the higher excess option, which doesn't look too bad.

Di, have you considered putting the V8 and the XK on the same policy. I did that, + TVR + more and total cost is not much more than your 1,350. Also spectacularly simple to renew. Track days, European cover all in. Not sure of excess, but it's in the hundreds, and let's face it you don't claim unless there's a significant bill to pay.

Can you tell us who the insurer is? I tried to buy a multi-vehicle policy and as soon as I mentioned 'Aston Martin' they ran away!

I've got all four cars on one policy. Paid it last week - around £1400. Can't complain about that....

Unfortunately husbands car is a company car so it is insured through the business.

Used to be known as Sunninghill, now Jelf Group. Policy is with Chaucer. Others on here also recommend Admiral

I thought Admiral were useless when I spoke to them! According to their computer, my 1964 Volvo P1800 does not exist as they stopped making them in 1963!! Eh?? I thought they made 'em until about 1973...

My multi-car policy is through a broker and is with RSA (Royal Sun Alliance).

Thanks, will try them. Used Admiral's on-line quote generator this morning and it produced a stunningly good quote. However, as it has an annual limit of 90 days continental cover, it's no use to me as I spend a lot of time in S of France.
