I would be grateful if somebody could give me some info/advice on the following -
Have a 2005 DB9 coupe which I bought through a main dealer in April this year with 20k miles on the clock and I have done a further 5k miles since. The message coming up now is 'time for regular service' (even though the dealer told me it was just serviced pre sale).
How much should a regular service cost and any advice on if better to go to a main dealer or a reputable independent?
Looks like I also need a complete set of new tyres. A main dealer will probably charge the earth so any recommendations on what I should realistically expect to pay and if anybody can recommend a good supplier in Central London that would be great.
Thanks in advance.

If it was serviced pre sale then you will have a stamp in your service book dated April.....if you havn't then it was probably serviced late 2008 in which case you might have an argument with the dealer......service in London will probably cost you £1300 to £2000 provided it dosn't need brakes ect and a set of tyres from an independant tyre depot £850.........suggest you ring round for the best price......or nip up the M1 to Derby and have it serviced bt DMS Ltd for about £650

If you need a reputable independent in Central London (near Holland Park) i can recommend Peter at Aston service London very highly, if you give him a ring at 02077271944 im sure he'll be glad to help.

Rick gets my vote after using others including the dealers, I would not trust my car to anyone else, I live in london and the trip up to Derby just gives me an excuse for a good drive,

Thanks all. I keep reading about how great Rick's DMS is. No offence Rick but does having the service stamped in the book without an Aston dealer have any impact on future values ie not a 'full AMSH'?

Go to a dealer and ask them if the same car will have any money knocked off it, if it dosent have full AMSH

I suspect its the same story as any other car:

if you are selling back to a dealer, he will try and knock you down on your trade in price as it "hasnt got full AMSH"

then he will put the car on the forecourt at full retail anyway

if you ask about the lack of "full AMSH" he will tell you it dosent matter really

until you come to trade it in 3 years later...of course then he wants to give you a couple of grand less

My usual logic is thus - I have 2 services per year, and save around £500 per service by using a specialist. I keep the car for 4 years, so im £4K up ....As long as I get within £4K trade in on an identical car with full AMSH then im quids in smile

EU ruling states that you dont have to take a new car to a dealer for servicing, as long as whoever does is a VAT registered establishment (i.e. a real business, not your mates drive) and they use genuine parts, and follow the service schedule, the manufacturer must honor any warranty still

...strangely this is not advertised widely, and dealers still try the old ways to drag you back to them for servicing....
