You know its a "fly off" handbrake don't you?
??? Well it's not flying off! My old MGA has a fly off type handbrake but that's mechanical. This one is electronic and no matter what I do with the handbrake lever and button I can't get it to come off!

Also, check with Aston it maybe a known problem.
And, start the car, go 'forwards' then 'reverse' may help to free up things.

Electronic? Is the Vanquish different? My DB9 handbrake is utterly mechanical.
No, you are correct, the Vanquish does not have an electronic handbrake, it is cable operated. I would think the most likely cause is a seized caliper, has it been sitting for a while? Try removing the rear wheel and looking at the small handbrake caliper. If it's a cable problem you can access the adjuster by removing the trim around the handbrake.

yep a mechanical handbrake, firstly is the handbrake actually staying on or just the warning light, common issue, if the handbrake is fully stuck on, rocking the car forward and backwards should allow it to free off, otherwise as caml states it will be a bit of a strip down,
Both the warning light and handbrake are on so the car will not move. The handbrake lever is free to travel, but that is always the case isn't it?I am interested to see how this functions, as the lever always returns to the fully down position when the handbrake is on, I assumed there were some electronics at work!
Hi neil yes the handbrake always returns to the down position handbrake on or off, Is this your car and you understand how to use the handbrake or have you not operated one before and require instructions on it's operation, there is no electrical operation to it, sorry if my question offends as i don't see many that have seized and have spent quite a bit of time explaining there operation to people who have not operated this type of handbrake before,

Thanks Rick, in fact you are right it's not my car, I am taking care of it, however, I have successfully operated the handbrake numerous times previously while moving the car. I also have the handbook describing the mode of operation. As I said the situation is that handbrake and lamp are on and I am unable to find any sequence of operation that will release it. I would be very happy for you to describe the correct method of operation.
usual problem with vanquish is the cable not pulling the pivot lever back enough to put the light out. release the handbrake as usual and if the light stays on feel to the rear of the lever assembly and move the pivot lever so it connects correctly with the pin switch. this should put the light out and let you select gear.
