Hello,

Having just had the clutch replaced on my sportshift 07, AM advised me to go easy on it until it beds in. They dropped it off and I had a quick drive, the clutch slips quite badly between gear changes. I called them and they weren't sure if that was normal or not, they said probably not. I'm going to drop it back in, but it seems strange that they would delivery it to me like that. Any ideas what to expect with a new clutch?

how many miles you done to be needing a new clutch?

im on 43K miles, Jan 06 car and the clutch is fine ...seems very odd anyway, I wouldnt be expecting any new clutch to be slipping at all, not in any other car ive owned anyway !

...if thats an official dealer thats done the work Id take it straight back for them to sort it out....

only 12k miles, but it was juddering when setting off and AM kindly agreed to change it under warranty (after a couple of inspections).

The replacement is slipping or over revving between gear changes, as if the clutch is engaging too late or the gear changes are super slow. I've dropped it in now, after sitting in 1.5hrs of traffic on the A40.

It's still juddering a bit too frown

Hmmm...got me thinking. Like you i've a 07 V8V sportshift...mine always has had a judder when pulling away which I just put down as a characteristic of the ss, was this your only indicator for clutch wear? I've only 9k miles on it since new, and am building my warranty fix list before it expires come next march.

The clutch after replacement should not slip at all, and should off been set up and bedded in before returning it to you, The flywheel should have been replaced if it has not this will be the issue, if the flywheel has been replaced then i presume the "kiss" point was not set correctly, it is not normal to slip after replacement, especially under normal driving conditions, they are correct in as much that a period of normal driving (50 to a 100 miles) after a clutch is replaced as you would with new brakes,

Thanks Rick, I was hoping you'd be able to pitch in. I'll check about the flywheel but it feels that the bite point is hitting slightly too late, hopefully a simple setting change. I was still pretty surprised they handed the car back to me, it was fairly undriveable.

22, I've had juddering ever since I got the car at about 8k miles. I pushed AM who initially brushed me off with a series of clutch resets but they finally did something about it this time, stepped up and changed the clutch under warranty... although it was a close run thing, you'd have to pay about £3k if they deemed it to be clutch wear. Feel free to PM me and cite my case as an example if they're unwilling to help.

Just to bring this to a close for anyone with a sportshift... picked up the car and it's sharper than ever. It creeps in first gear which it never did before, silky smooth takeoff, not an inkling of a judder. In higher gears it's razor sharp but still smooth on the downchanges, an unbelievable improvement and an absolute pleasure to drive around town now.

For anyone with sportshift issues, it's well worth chasing AM, it's like a totally different car.
