Been comtemplating what to get next for a while and have considered pretty much EVERYTHING on the market since I sold the 996TT back in August (decided to drive the Jag for a while so whatever I get will be that bit nicer and I won't be comparing it to the Porker).

Was only put off from the V8V purely as it had no space for gear, golf clubs etc, BUT having just read the article in Top Gear this morning and seen the 2 x golf bags, 2 holdalls and lots of other gear that fitted in .... it's now no.1 on the hit list! (but know hardly anything about them, other than searching posts on here). BTW ... Love Black but would be dirty all the time so thiking Titanium Silver or Meteorite.

I lost a LOT over the 5yrs I owned the 996TT much due to using it every day and adding some 55k miles to the 18k it had when I bought it.
To try to avoid a similar hit, I am realistically looking at the earlier cars around the £40k mark. I accept that the 4.7 may be quicker than the 4.3, but from what I have read, a V8V is not the car you buy if looking for out & out performance anyway (GT3RS blah blah blah).

I want a good looking car, that'll cope with every day use (45-50 miles/day on average, with occassional longer trips), be reasonably comfortable, make me smile whenever I am driving/washing it, with a great exhaust note (ex-TVR owner and missed the noise when I had the porsche - just too quiet), but be reliable and work whenever I want it to.

I would be great to hear from anyone who uses a V8 on a daily basis with pro's & con's, or the differences between 4.3 and 4.7 performance wise, and anything to look out for.

Thanks

Hi i went from a 996 to a V8 in the 4.3 version for slighlty over 40K.
The car had extended warranty, 19K on the clock nice spec and everything i was looking for.
I do around 40miles a day and use this as my sole car and can recommend it highly!
There are plenty of pros however only a few cons such as the sat nav!!!
When i leave the office late at night its the only thing that puts a smile on my face
For 40k its hell of lot of car

I use mine daily - up to 40K miles now ...its pretty much about the same as running a high end german saloon (I had an RS6 daily in the past)

servicing is done at an indie - DMS in Derby, for 1/2 cost of main dealer

consumables are no more than say a 330 Beemer

fuel - well Im on a fuel card, but avg 18mpg

the only thing I regret is my own impatience frown

Like you, ive lost a lot in the past on cars, and did intend on waiting 3 years and picking up a £40-45K V8 with 20K on the clock etc ....but I only managed to wait a year and paid £71K for one with 6K on the clock ....Ive had a lot of fun in it though over the last 2.5 years smile

go for it - theres nothing quite the same smile

I had two Tuscans as daily drives for five years. In the back of my mind was always the reliability issue. Went to a 335i which whilst being fantastic had no soul. I now do around 40 miles a day in the V8V and love it. I dont know how my 4.7 compares to the 4.3 but I get better mpg than the Tuscs. Although 15mpg around town isnt probably worth bragging about. In just a few months I have clocked up over 4,000 miles and enjoyed a few high mileage trips.
What I do know is the smile is always there. I really love this car.

well i don't like to admit it BUT the 4.7l has nearly the DBS performance and the 4.3l is a little bit slower but sounds way better than the 4.7l wink

£40k?

Had a quick look on the pistonheads classified and looks like you'll need at least another 10% on top of that for anything half decent.

Sorry, not trying to put you off, was looking for one at that price just over 6 months ago and ended up paying 15% more than that.

Hope you can find one that fits your budget, brilliant fun, puts a smile on my face every time I drive it - puts a smile on lots of pedestrians / other car drivers too!

Heh heh heh. Yup my budget went totally out of the window but no regrets at all. It appears Astons are like that.
I saw loads of cars but mine just sat there and said " buy me". No idea why but I just knew this was gonna be my car.

£40k was a figure of speach really.
It'll definitely start with a 4, but may be mid-higher side if I find the right car.

I'll be paying cash so won't get tempted to keep going up and up (I'm a car salesmans dream tho - no willpower)

Be ideal if someone who was about to get hammered on px called and we both got a deal ha ha!

Also by going towards £50k the more sensible option would be a db9 (3yr old) but think the v8 is harder, more sports car than GT.

Thanks for all replie. - appreciate the input!

Again - you have to manage expectations. 50k will not buy you a 3 year old DB9.

and those extra 4 cylinders on a DB9 seem to add quite a bit to the running costs for a "daily driver" LOL wink

Great excuse, although do you think my 3 year old girl will understand????

"Daddy, why didn't you get a car that I can go in?" grumpy

"A DB9 is more expensive to run darlin, but you can watch me from the window" driving

Hi Paul

You mentioned someone px'ing a V8V. I (sadly) might be selling mine, it's July07 sportshift in black, 12k miles and fully spec'd. It's not up for sale yet as I'm just waiting to hear on a house purchase, but pm me if there's any interest, I should know in the next few days. Sorry to solicit in an open forum, I've been a ph member for while so hope I haven't offended anyone. If you're going for a manual then best of luck, it's a fantastic car and totally practical as a daily driver. 2 sets of golf clubs are no problem but you'll have to leave the trolley behind!

Best wishes
Al

I use mine as a daily drive... Have never kept a car more than 6 months in the past, have had my V8V for 18 months now and still loving it. I had a wabble the other day where I considered changing, but then realised there is nothing else I would rather have for my budget right now!

she will be more upset when shes got used to going in it, then dosent fit a year later ...the back seats are not worth bothering with IMO

...much easier to have a family car as well .....and a "proper" sportscar for yourself.....or get the wife her own and she can follow behind smile
