Guys,

Had my oil topped up by HWM with 4.5L back in early September and just re checked my oil levels.
Checked when cold, started her up for 20secs and ideled to 2000rpm and left for 30secs and my level is just below the minimum line.
Does this sound right?
Certainly haven’t got a oil leak from what i can see, well shall i say i hope......

What grade do you guys use for top ups?

Vantage oil is 10w-60 Castrol Edge. The oil level should be at the max line when the engine has been run for 20 seconds. If you drive the car quite hard they can burn through oil.

depends on how many miles youve done - but to have to top it up between services can be normal

in between services on mine, I can maybe put in 2-4L (2 full top ups - its 2L between lines)

I do use it well though and go on track etc ..

that sounds exesive to me . its has been known for the seperator in the breather system to go wrong and the engine then burns off its oil quicker .check to see if the exhaust pipes feel oily and keep an eye out for blue smoke .
hope this helps

Anyone know the difference between Castrol Edge 10w-60 and Castrol Edge 10w-60 Sport? I ask because one of the websites referred to says "Castrol Edge 10w-60 for M Series".

I have just topped up but have overdone it - level is approx 10mm above the max. This is from cold and running 20 secs as per manual. Any advise if this is ok ??

I dont think 10mm will matter that much in that size of header tank, theres a bit of leeway ...you could measure it 1/2 dozen times and get a different reading to be honest

Thanks for the advice. I think 10mm equates to less that 1/2 a litre which is not much compared to the reservoir volume. All the warnings in manual are for not having enough with nothing on having a bit more.

yeah, for sure, lots of people recommend putting 1/2L more in for track use and such like anyway...like you say, 1/2L in a 12-13L tank, thats got a good bit of spare room in it is not a bad thing

Probably a silly question, but do you screw the oil filler cap back down and then un screw and take oil level reading or is it just dip and check?
