and what is the greatest aston in terms of drivability, chassis dynamics and downright well executed performance?

Best Aston Ever - Mine.
Why - Cos it's Mine.

Seriously I really think it is the DBR1 followed closely by the V12 Vantage. Why? The DBR1 just makes we go weak at the knees when ever I see one. The V12V just has the best balance of brute force that an Aston should have, with everyday useablity and fantastic handling.

Good answers.

The DBR1 is a particular favourite so I bought one (a near perfect replica)... Sold it after two years as I could barely find the time to drive it but always an event when I did.

My DB9 ticks most other boxes relative the to V12V. My problem with it is that it is a little too "showy" - those bonnet louvres and the side skirts. I'd rather like a DBS but have the same issue.

DB5 is the prettiest road car, followed by the DB4 and then the DB9.

The DB4GT Zagato is amazing. Not pretty but handsome and aggressive. In some ways, the Vanquish is similar.

Same goes for the 90's S/C Vantage - nothing about the shape is special but it just "works".

Vanquish S for me. Modern construction techniques mixed with old-world panel-beating. Immensely powerful. Best-looking of any Astons. The factory will do anything to one for you. No compromises. A proper GT.

Mmm.

What Tazio said but change Vanquish S for V600 Le Mans (OK also leave out the modern construction bit smile)

Actually Vanquish S is higher on my list as it's more affordable.

Would have agreed with the previous poster "Mine!" Thought mine was brilliant but then was at Rick's last weekend with 20+ other Aston's and had the green eyed monster come over me looking at all the other cars, left thinking I had the poor mans Aston! (Please stop all the post about the deals available on new Vantages, made me look and saw some really 'cheap' new V8 Roadsters)

Never ever park a V8 Vantage between a DB9 and a DB9 convertible followed by a V8 roadster, followed by.....
... and right at the end of 20+ cars was a V8LM - so completely different and the best sounding Aston I've heard - spent 30 mins behind it in an Aston convoy.

DBR? Looks fantastic, sounds even better, loads of history

But ultimately at my age there is only one winner...

.. come on mid to late 40's (really can't claim to be 39 anymore frown ) there is only one winner...

... what got you into Astons in the first place?

Cinema - the best Bond (Connery) with the best Bond car and therefore the best Aston, I give you the

DB5

No I do not think I am Bond, no I don't have a 007 numberplate, but its the car that made we recognise an Aston, why it was different from Italian marques - the understated "British" elegance of the marque, the indefinable 'coolness' of the car and brand. And yes I did have the Corgi model with the ejector seat, pop up bullet proof screen, etc (so anal even kept the box - but gave it away before I knew it had a value frownfrownfrown )

When i win the lottery, really will have to buy one...

... along with a DBS convertible

and a V12 Vantage - for popping down to the shops in

Almost.

Well said. The (proper) V8 Vantage was the first, the 90's "The Vantage" was the one, and the Le Mans was but a dream.

the best Aston is the DBS V8. 1971 vintage. Mine is for sale if you're interested..

..seriosuly, I dont think you can say which is the "best" Aston, as Aston have never made a dud, or never made a cheap version for the mass public*

So they are all special. But you can have your favourites. Here are mine:

DB4 GT
DBS v8
Lagonda
V8 Vantage (original, black dial)
Vantge Volante
Virage 6.3
Virage Volante
Vantage
Vanquish
DB7 Vanatge
DB9
DBS

The there are are racing versions:
Ulster
DB3S
DBR1
DBR4
Robin Hamiltons Le Mans V8
AMR1
DBR9
Lola-Aston

+1

If I had only two cars in my garage it would be these two stunning cars. The V12V is dynamically the best ever (and the car to own to drive every day today) and the DB5 was the car that started my lifelong dream to own an Aston.
