Larini exhausts are great on Aston Martins.

Feel free to give me a call on monday and i'll give you all the info you need along with a price.
I also have sound clips from customers cars if needed.

There are multiple choices, how loud would you like it, the same as fuse 22 out, a deeper tone, will it matter if it drones on cruising, If it is for daily driving i would suggest either the larini, quicksilver sports, or the dms sports,
for more sound but can drone so better suited to weekend drives rather than long runs i would suggest the tubi, or the quicksilver supersport, this is just my opinion there is also tone differences but not really that significant, between the different manufactures, you can listen to most of the different ones on youtube which will give you an idea, in reality they all sound better in real life, As for build quality and performance gains, they are all made out of similar materials and as they have all been designed along the same lines, then the gains in bhp is about the same as is the weight saving,

They are by far the best sounding and made exhausts to many of them out there. Ive got the exhaust and the sport cats. just awesome.

Quicksilver sound good on the V8. Larini's on the DB9 sound good (albeit a bit Ferrari like - why not just by a Ferrari?!) when rev'd but pretty poor out on the road. The standard box is part of the rear crash structure on all Aston's though.

What - like a lump of lead to absorb the impact!

I've heard this before.

But if you've seen how they attach I really cannot believe it adds materially to the crash strength of the car. At least not in any way that an aftermarket exhaust would be disadvantaged.

I find this hard to believe. I remember at the launch of the Vantage I asked one of the Aston guys why they had put that awful box on the front for the number plate, instead of designing the bumper to house the number plate? His reply was 'It's part of the crash safety structure sir.' rolleyes

I can just about believe that. I took the number plate mount off my car recently and it's actually a pretty substantial piece of framing which connects right through the grill.

I still replaced it with something more elegant though biggrin

On the V12 Vantage, the license plate box actually serves a useful purpose, because if you bang into anything, you hit that first before the carbon splitter. Also not saying I am going to do so, but does anybody know if these exhausts would work on the V12 Vantage. Would they provide any benefit?

It's all about energy disipation chaps. It's something else that gets in the way before the impact makes it to the passenger compartment thus reducing the energy absorbed by the occupants.
It's why car bumpers destroy themselves in small accidents. It reduces the shockwave through the cabin.

Yes they would work on the V12 vantage as they do on the DBS, i have not seen one that has been purposely designed for this model, as we are developing one, I am pretty sure that larini and quicksilver will also producing one soon, better to wait a little while, so you have choices,

The exhaust box mountings may not be very strong, but the large differential casing and ARB/ rear subframe mounts just behind the rear box are V strong, and this is what the box gets sandwiched into and progressivly collapses when you hit something solid when going fast backwards !! (or probably more likely, that white van man crashes into when he hasnt noticed you've actually stopped in front of him !!)

Thanks rick for the information. Do you think there would be any benefit in changing over to one of these when they come out? The bhp on the car is already 510, would an extra 10-15 bhp make any discernable difference to the performance?

Honestly no, you would not realistically notice tat amount of bhp gain, you could have this much difference on a damp day to a hot summers day due to air density, you will have a around a 20kg weight saving and there would be a difference in throttle response, the other difference is obviously the tone and volume, I would not recommend a sports exhaust to anybody who solely wanted a bhp gain, i think they would be disappointed, It's more to do with personalising the car, and gains will be more like 7 to 12 bhp, the only real gains are though remapping in conjunction with a sports exhaust,

Hello to the AM forum!

I have been 'lurking' around here as am looking at a DB9 as a possible next car. As a real ‘engine/exhaust noise fan’ this post caught my attention. Exhausts are always such a personal choice as apart from the build quality, fit and price; the key factor is if you like the noise it makes!

I just wanted to add to the discussion by saying that a friend of mine who has a 2006 DB9 Coupe recently purchased a Milltek exhaust system. He bought the ‘Cat-Back’ system initially, then went for the replacement cats and is looking into the performance manifolds as well! The sound is awesome, but when you are in the car (a passenger admittedly) there is none of the annoying resonance or droning that so many aftermarket systems suffer from.

I recommended he give Milltek a try as I have used them on several cars in the past. The build quality and fit is excellent and the systems seem to be considerably more cost effective than many of the others available, some of which are just back-boxes (although I know some companies also do replacement Cats as well). Because Milltek do the whole thing front to back, you can keep the entire std system for replacement as and when you sell the car! (which I did on my XKR and S-Type R)

Not sure how convenient it is for you, but I recommended he use Paramount Performance in Slough (01753 533633), as they are fairly local to us both and they had already fitted the Milltek systems to both my Jags. For the price of a phone call I’d recommend looking into it, you could do a lot worse!

Hope this helps?

Scott
