I have owned this car for nearly two years and it has a Sport Shift Transmission. I believe it is the first year (08) that it was available. I have constantly been trying to figure out why it will shutter whether in auto or paddle shifting, particularly first thing in the morning, when put in either reverse or first gear. Upon giving it gas lightly on the accelerator, it will shutter for a few seconds before it actually starts to move off. If I step on it hard it doesn't make any difference except it will move off very quickly. I have it in the dealership now. They tell me they tested a 09 and it does the same thing. I'm trying to get a test drive so I can compare. I have found that if I let it warm up for a couple of minutes, it helps. Also it will occassionally shutter when starting from a stop, even when it is cold. Anybody have any ideas?

Aren't you providing the reason why in your post? Not letting the transmission warm up?

do you let the car carry out he clutch learn procedure each time you start, also did your dealer say they are all like this or did he plug in his amds and try calibrating the clutch for you,

I've read a lot about this problem, however I can't really tie down a fix. What's even more important is if this really is a problem or to be expected with that transmission. Based on that I can either pursue it or not. I would like to hear if other V8 Vantage owners are experiencing the same problem.

I haven't been allowing the car to relearn each time I start it, though maybe I should. The dealer has taken the clutch apart about 6 months ago and did find some problems on its surface and replaced it. It was fine for a while, about 2 weeks, then the same problem is back. Obviously replacing the cluth is not the problem. I assume he recalibrated the new clutch. This time he said that he was measuring the clutch to pressure plate spacing and said it was closer than on the new 09 car. I am wondering if this is just a characteristic of this F1 transmission that I just need to live with.

Mine does this too, and I reset it everytime I start up. It only involves flicking it into neutral before you hit the start button. By the time you've got your seatbelt on, the clutch will have clicked and you're ready to go. It takes about 6 or 7 seconds.

My 09 exhibits what seems like a light version of your syptoms. From standstill, the clutch is engaging just a little too fast when I give it gas and accelaration is not quite as smooth as it ought to be. That clutch procedure sounds like what I've been looking for.. do you guys know what it actually does?

To trigger it, you have to set the car in neutral before you start the engine, but after you insert the fob in half way?

There are 2 procedures. The first is the 10 second one on cold start up. the second involves the clutch learning it's friction co-efficient. You're better off letting your dealer do that one for you though. It can be done by yourself but can make you feel queasy.

The other thing to remember is that the A/C works briefly (approx 2 minutes) on start up. 08my onwards I think. When the enigine's cold the A/C may be interfering slightly which may also be dragging it down. Nothing to worry about, these cars always work better when the get warmed up!

Thanks for the info. I've mentioned the friction coefficient to my dealer who now has the car.
