Saw one in the flesh last weekend, coming out of the car wash at Sainsburys! Surely one of the most beautiful shapes on the road. Sounded the business too.

Looks nice and better than the mock up photos & sketches I had previously seen..I really need to see one in it's natural enviroment somewhere off of knightsbridge to see how fantastic it really is.

The PH reporter on the spot had a long chat with Henrik Fisker (Director of design at AM) whilst he was on the Aston Stand. Apparently HF is a fan of the PH.

Absolutely gorgeous car, in convertible guise too not just coupe. The "pram" look Aston Volante is dead!

Not sure about those wheels though, remind me of those used on a Ford Focus or Fiesta

Unbelivable, the rear looks even better then the one of the DB7.

The front unforiunatly doesn't ... it is a bit too ... hmm, I don't know ... a bit too something! I just think the DB7 has the better nose.

However, at the Moment, Aston is producing the most beautiful cars in the world!

-> This car belongs into an art-museum!

Good work Henrik!

I must admit me and several others in the AMOC were worried when you were appointed: your past designs were not to everyone's taste but you seem to have understood the brand 100% and built on the history to get something 100% modern yet stunningly beautiful. Few modern designers truly achieve this.

Well done

Having now seen the car in the flesh and had a good chance to sit in it and touch and feel it I think it is a winner.

Be warned however, it is very colour-sensitive just like Vanquish. Greys, silvers, blues and blacks are the best choices, greens do not help it one iota. Oh, and monotone interiors are the way forward.

So when is the DB9 or the AMV8 going to be available for purchase?

They are starting production on the DB9 as we speak. You should see some on the roads soon. Not the DB( Volante, though. That won't be out for a while. The V8 Vantage is due for production in 2005, when the DB9 will be entered into Le mans.

The last DB7 was built in october/ november time (see this weeks Autocar) although there are still quite a few unsold DB7 and DB7 Zagato around. I suspect they will be for quite a time as well. Might make values interesting...

Is it me or do the doors look like they are hinged upwards slightly when open?

The doors are also designed to sta open at any angle. I'm sure other cars have this as well, but for an Aston its truly advanced!!!

Aston are calling this "swan-wing" and there are a few reasons they went down this route.

Firstly it provides a greater entry space into the car for your feet and legs. This really is massively different to the DB7 and even the Vanquish. It also provides a greater angle of clearance for the door against high kerbs.

One of the most important things is the fact that the doors almost 'self-close' under their own weight without the complexity and added mass of an electric system. Although they stay open at most angles, just a gentle tug will allow the door to shut without the need to slam (a common problem with the 7 that made the self-sealing windows go on the blink!)

Another new feature is the flush door handles. These are very similar to the Fiat Barchetta's. After unlocking the car you push one end and it comes out at an angle. Very neat.

The Baby V8 (AMV8) is in development now, looks even better. It's using a version of the V8 from landrover.
