Hi all most of you know what I do, And it is very rare i ask for a favour but after a phone call and an email from a gentleman about his grandson I feel quite compelled, I will also except blackmail on reduced pricing on servicing repairs and upgrades if they will spare some time,

I had a phone call from a gentleman about his 12 year old grandson who is ill, but loves Aston Martin his dream is to be a designer for Aston Martin and talks about nothing else, i was approached to sell them some books on the cars so that the lad would have something to read and take his mind off the tests etc, we have invited ethan and his grandfather to our workshop to give him some inspiration, which they have accepted, we will send the books gratis, and if any body can point me in the way of a good model company this would be appreciated (as myself and kay would like to send a personal gift)

Now the favour, this lad is based in london and i thought if someone would take the time and effort to give this lad a ride out in there car, I will me immensely indebted, at this point i do not know if this will be possible due to his health etc, but i would love to offer someone's services

Regards Rick and Kay

this is a copy of the email edited to protect identity

as explained my 12 year old grandson, ,is going to have to submit to some very unpleasant medical treatment long term.he is a bright lad but absolutely besotted with Aston Martin, with every intention of becoming your chief designer in the future.

I attempted to purchase
autocar collection aston martin since 1994 £19.94
little book of aston martin hardback £6.99
on google but they inform me that you do not deliver to my address.
may I ask you to be kind enough to send these books in time for his hospital visit 14th sept `09 and any others that would be of interest?
if I could purchase a reasonably priced model of a classic that would be further appreciated and what would be wonderful would be a little note from you inviting Ethan to visit your premises in Derby and see your guys in action.
i cannot thank you enough for the your combined compassion and kindness in a terribly stressful family problem.
warm regards

Rick,

Never used your services (fairly new to Aston onwership) but have always enjoyed your replies on Pistonheads to peoples' problems / queries.

Do you have any idea of where in London he lives. I live in Surrey and work in the City of London during the week so may be able to assist with a blast in a V8. East London is more difficult but not impossible.

Hey Rick, maybe instead of one person taking him out we could get a few models gathered together to let him see and a couple maybe give him a ride out.
Just an idea.

What part of London are we talking about?

I would happily risk some points on my licence for this.

Ditto on all counts.

I also have a small RC V8 Vantage gathering dust. Not in its box though unfortunately. Any use?

Lots of kind Surrey people on here, but I live in Central London (Shoreditch, postcode N1 - just above the City; pretty much East London).
I have a black N400 that looks the dogs danglies and, like all Astons, sounds fab, so I think it would be just right.
Happy to drive the lad to the best country roads we can find - Norfolk and back if his Mum and Dad approve of me! I can do it this weekend if needed.
PM me and we're done.
Best.

This all sounds a bit familiar. The following request appeared on the AMOC forum back in April 2008 but "Ethan" was based in Wales then but suddenly vanished. Now this request. Many offers were made but there was no further contact. I think someone needs to check this out carefully before sending off any goods or offering rides just to make sure it is for real.

AMOC: Ethan is aged 10 years old from Swansea in South Wales.

Ethan has recently been diagnosed with a Brain Tumour. The type of tumour Ethan has cannot be operated on, therefore, the only treatment available is a course of steroids, radiotherapy for six weeks and ongoing chemotherapy, postponing the inevitable.

Ethan is a fun loving boy and is a massive fan of vehicles - cars, motorbikes, vans, quadbikes, limousines etc. In particular his favourite car is the Aston Martin and he would love to one day experience the actual thrill of taking a drive in one.

If anyone in the South Wales area can help please email or PM me and I'll pass on your offers to Ethan's family.

I started reading this thread and thought....wow what a great thing to do and how everyone was offering to give up there time.....brilliant....angel

Then you read V8s post and you go ...hhmmmmmm....confused

There could be some perfectly reasonable explanation but when we are dealing with expensive things and knowing how twisted this planet and the human race can be? mad

Might need to check a few things out!

I hope it is genuine, there is nothing worse when people play on the generosity of others then smack you over the head with it smash

That's fantastic, also after v8vantage's post i too wondered if i was being scammed so i have carried out an electrol role search on the details given to me, the details state that the gentleman is 65 and has been at the address since 2002, In his email to me he also mentioned his wife's name which on checking also lives at this address, so I do believe it to be genuine, I have also looked at the post on the AMOC and Must admit this is quite similar,

If it does turn out that I am being scammed, so be it i would sooner take a chance and lose a couple of books than have the doubt that i could put a smile on a young lads face (ill or not)and not bothered, I will phone the gent today and mention the really kind offers,

Thank you all it just shows what a great bunch of kind and generous people you are.

Well done Rick.
Although there is always a risk of being scammed.....it is very healthy for the soul to "trust" as the default option. Luckily in this case, we were right... Nice to see so many "hope givers" !
