HI,

I'm thinking of atetnding the AM trackday at Silverstone in October. As a trackday novice I was wondering whether the group here would recommend these events?

what do people do about insurance?

tia Richard.

I havnt done one, but have only heard good things about the organisation on them.

Insurance wise, I have free trackday cover built into mine with Richard Eggers (I used to have an ELise that was tracked regularly, so its a must have)

Id ring your insurer - its expensive to take out seperate policies

And maybe think about some driver training first, before venturing on track - you will appreciate the car a lot more www.carlimits.com is a good start, ive done many days there over the years

Hi,

I am also booked on this.
You can expect the organisation to be superb. There will be instructors on hand, and they won't allow you onto the track alone until they are confident that you know what you are doing.

I haven't decided if I will get insurance.

You could also consider other more "normal" track days. I recently hired an instructor for the day and went to the track day at Hullavington. The total cost was about half the cost of the Silverstone day and I had a fantastic time.

Hi Gents,

thanks for your replies.

I've just done the PDC course at Millbrook which has given me the appetite to do more smile

Can you drive on the track without insurance? what happens if you hit someone or someone hits you? I know its unlikely...

I'll give my insurer a ring, but I don't recall trackday cover being included (I'm with A-Plan).

Thanks again

Richard.

you are self insured on track and sign an indemnity at the start of the day

so if you hit someone or someone hits you, you each pay for your own car to be fixed, and thats it - very simple

there is no 3rd party liability

hence I only go on well organised days with similar cars (generally) - so you dont end up out on track with a loony who thinks its a race, in their £1000 "track car 15 year old Fiesta" or such like, who dont care about anything LOL smile

PDC and Track Days all set up and run by the same dept. within Aston. Meaning you will get the same levels at the track as you did at Millbrook.

Easiest way to get your questions answered is to contact them through their website smile

Check out the testimonial from Spa as well - http://www.trackdays.astonmartin.com/eng/home/ontr... (runs at the top of the page).

Another bonus with Silverstone is that you get to use the G.P. Circuit (at least that was the case last year).
