Iphone 3GS - Bluetooth Connection Issues
Discussion
hi,
ive just placed an order for a iphone 3GS! when i was at the store i managed to take the phone to my car to see is it would pair - but to my disappointment it picked up the Bluetooth signal but was unable to pair! what a bummer!
Has anyone successfully paired either the new 3gs or the older 3g iphone successfully?
i have a 07 model 4.3 - will i need an upgrade to the Bluetooth module (if a software upgrade even exists!)
your help would be much appreciated! i currently have a clean licence and id like to keep it that way whilst also avoiding aftermarket options as much as possible (i.e. parrot Bluetooth kit that attaches to the sun visor etc…)
your help would be much appreciated!

Not sure if this applies to an Iphone 3GS but make sure you have SAP (Sim Access Profile) turned off in the bluetooth settings on the phone. This option is sometimes called "Enable Remote Sim Access" or such like - depends on your phone's interface.
The Aston system only supports the lesser functional but more compatible HFP (Hands Free Profile).

I have an 07 4.3 and a 3G Iphone (not 3GS).. it pairs with no problem at all. I doubt apple changed anything as Bluetooth connectivty has to conform to an international standard... just my 2 pence worth..
Whilst my 3G hooks up fine to my 07 4.3 too, the standards thing is sadly not the case. Not all standards are standard.
The '07 bluetooth is not as compatible as the '08 system and it cannot be upgraded. The difference with peoples phones may lie in the phone software. There can be subtle changes that Apple have thrown in which now make the phone incompatible. Seen this before with the old Nokia 6230i. Some worked OK, some not at all. Your Aston dealer can't help you with either. From '08 (the one with the flip top armrest) the system can be upgraded as AML learn the new profiles. It would be nice if there was a single bluetooth standard but there isn't.
My 09 (DB9) pairs fine with the iPhone 3G. However, the day I got it, I tried to pair and it failed. Tried it later and the thing worked perfectly. Sometimes I get in the car and it doesn't pair but it is only two or three button presses to get it to link to the phone again.
Question for anyone with the 3GS: does the voice dialing work with the car? One of the problems is it is fine for incoming calls but I have hundreds of contacts in the phone so scrolling through them is not really and option.

Voice dialling works but cabin noise and music can Interfere with it. The 3gs will mute music if you enter voice control, so it will be ideal for owners with iPod connections.
To make tracker pairing easier, rename your iPhone to a more personal name in lower case with no spaces or funny characters- it will make things easier...
