I bought my first Aston in April (DB9 - 2005 model) having had 911's for several years. Looked at the Vantage but thought the Vantage is to the DB9 what the Boxster is to the 911. The last Porsche I owned (996 C4S Cab) was superb and never had the slightest of problems with it. The DB9 has had a few niggles with it and I don't think it's a patch on German engineering but for sheer joy and pleasure you cannot beat the DB9. The best decision I ever made! Watch out for speed bumps though - I've lost count of the times I have 'scraped' the bottom of the car. Also, be ready for tons of admiring looks, teenage boys taking photos and videos of it as you drive by and the ocasional female unable to resist the urge to flash you her 'chest' (OK - I made the last bit up but I'm sure it will happen one day soon!).

Okay, I sold my Cayenne a couple of months ago as it was just to bloody uncomfortable. The proceeds are burning a hole in my pocket.

I have narrowed my 'wish list' to the above two.

I would probably be buying a 06/06 model. On the maths front the cost over three years is roughly the same (depreciation + servicing + insurance) although the Aston would be more of a cash outlay up front.

I do have somewhat of a passion for V12's, I'm currently on my 4th lol, but other than that what has the Aston got over the Porsche?
Not wishing to sound negative, I am a little confused by your maths!!
Depreciation + servicing + insurance roughly the same??

Have you had any insurance quotes and also have you had servicing quotes yet?

The porsche 997 is cheap to service & insure, a fraction of the cost of the Aston!!

Also the V8V is a better comparisment to the 997.

The DB9 is far more grand tourer!

Bunnyman has got it right - if you are into sophisticated engineering you'll be disappointed with the DB9 bu if you love the looks, noise and image you'll love it . Spitfire vs german efficiency again. wink
