Thinking about swapping Vantage for DB9 (so can take nipper of 4 in the back). I drive through London every day. Have been on test drive and like the DB9, doesn't seem too unwieldy for city driving. But have come across a few websites that moan about reliability. Any thoughts/comments?

thanks.

If you can copewith the hard ride over our crap roads it'll be as reliable as your Vantage.Personally I'd commute in a 4/4 because of the third world road surfaces

you should try driving round bloody south london. half the roads are caving in, and lambeth and wandsworth council love the square table speed humps which are the quickest route to fecked suspension. ho hum.

but thanks - i guess the key thing is to ensure that there is warranty on the car - so will probably aim for an 06 plate that has extended guarantee.

anyone else any thoughts?

i am in this mood myself.will probably wait another 12 months but think that the sport pack db9 with stiffer suspention etc. is the perfect bridge between the 2. i had a db7 and this was a little too grand tourer and not quite enough out and out sports car.absolutely loved it but ultimately am happier now with the v8v.in fact i think i have just talked myself into a sportpack db9

The sportspack is not very wife-friendly, but it makes for a much better drive.

I bought my first Aston in April (DB9 - 2005 model) having had 911's for several years. Looked at the Vantage but thought the Vantage is to the DB9 what the Boxster is to the 911. The last Porsche I owned (996 C4S Cab) was superb and never had the slightest of problems with it. The DB9 has had a few niggles with it and I don't think it's a patch on German engineering but for sheer joy and pleasure you cannot beat the DB9. The best decision I ever made! Watch out for speed bumps though - I've lost count of the times I have 'scraped' the bottom of the car. Also, be ready for tons of admiring looks, teenage boys taking photos and videos of it as you drive by and the ocasional female unable to resist the urge to flash you her 'chest' (OK - Imade the last bit up but I'm sure it will happen one day soon!).

What planet are you living on.
Vantage is to DB9 what a boxter is to 911

The difference being the V8V compares well to the 911

Where the DB9 compares well to the Bentley (i.e Grand Tourer NOT sports car)!!

You obviously have not driven a V8V.

Like yourself, initially I was going to purchase a DB9 until I drove one I realised that I wasn't yet old enough to appreciate the grand tourer feel of the car. I was after a drivers car.

Porsche do not produce a grand tourer and as such the DB9 does not have a direct comparisment within the german marque.

D16RR Rich -
Each to their own I guess but yes I did try out a Vantage and I found it a blast but too 'boy racerish' in my view. I drive my car in Central London and there are a lot Vantages evrywhere I look. I wanted something a bit more refined I suppose and the paddleshift option is much easier in traffic.

I venture tha tyou didn't test a sports pack DB9. It is a very different car from the normal DB9.

like bunnyman, i drive in central and sarf london every day so one of the attractions of the DB9 is its ease of use in traffic. I took a 9 out the other day for a drive and it felt surprisingly agile - after the Vantage i was expecting it to feel heavy and unwieldy, but it wasn't.

as i slide inexorably towards the abyss of my 47th year the attraction of the GT feel grows larger...god how sad is that.

forgive my ignorance, but what does the sports pack consist of exactly and how much extra does it cost?
