Just wondering how many readers of the Aston thread on PH are members of the AMOC? I'm toying with the idea of joining but at £130 it seems a bit steep. Any thoughts?

I'm a member of the AMOC. I find that the real value isn't the publications, although they are quite good, nor the website which can be accessed for free, but the ability to interact with other members in your geography. From that perspective, you need to find out how active your AMOC "area" is. To assess this you should register for the AMOC website, www.amoc.org, and find the contact for your location.

Not a member but read the forum and have been at most of the race meetings for the last 2 years.

Also a member. There is a lot of info on the AMOC forum that non-members can't access and of course it's generally that which is needed.

I also joined to take part in some of the events, though the one I wanted to do at Yeovilton has just been cancelled frown

Thanks for the input chaps. Emailed them last week and waiting for a reply. It will be interesting to see if they welcome owners of the new, fangled, V8V into their midst!

I got my membership free until the end of the year so I get the chance to have 6 months to see if it is worth continuing in January. I have been to one meet (good) and invited to two which I have been unable to attend. Yes my V8V is the new kid on the block but I received positive feed back from the hardcore traditionalists. Give it a go.

Well the Area 3 (East Midlands) assistant rep happens to have a V8V (N400) .... winkbiggrin

In fact, if anyone here is from the Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire or Leicestershire area, please get involved and help us make Area 3 one of the most active AMOC groups smile

Steve, if the weather would calm down a bit then I'd be up for it. Last time I enquired it didn't stop raining.... and that was last year. Leicestershire/Warwickshire border here....where do you meet?

There are a large number of owners of the newer Astons, indeed I own a 1958 Aston and wondered if there would be much for owners of the older cars wink

Hi Steve,

Are you in Area 3? Not that it stops you coming to meetings, more a case of wanted to be sure you get our emails smile

Monthly meetings move around a little due to the size of our area. We have regular meetings near Derby and also just north of Leicester, as well as further afield in Rutland and near Grantham.

We are also planning a number of other events so send me a PM with your email and I'll send you the latest update on our plans smile

They don't do part years on their own so I assume that the price was for 18 months plus £30 for their "welcome pack" I joined just to support the club as their website is good! Haven't gone to any meets yet, although these look fairly well organised if behind the likes of PCGB. The mag is typical specialist car club stuff, A5 pamphlet thingy monthly + A4 mag quarterly, the free desk diary was rather special though.

membership is actually just under half that amount, say £66 rather than £130... wink

There is a £30 joining fee and the £100 mentioned on their web site is for 18 months membership.

What you get is a glossy quarterly magazine, an A5 monthly newsletter and an excellent annual book from the AM Heritage. They own a listed tithe barn which members can visit to browse the collection of Aston paraphernalia and the cars including the oldest surviving Aston Martin and a pre-war Ulster which is available for member's use at appropriate events. The events I have been to have all been at high quality National Trust venues and private estate, whilst at the Silverstone AMOC race day the club had use of the BARC facilities etc.

I've been a member for a couple of years and have been impressed with the organisation and quality of the events I've attended.

I've often heard TVR owners wondering why the club didn't do something to start a collection to look after the heritage of TVR but maybe the higher membership income is what allows the AMOC to achieve these things? scratchchin
