I'be had a Vantage for about 5 months and have had to call out the Aston breakdown service yet again on Friday due to a sudden and horrendous grinding noice from the front offside wheel.

A stone had got stuck between the disc and the disc guard. All the breakdown chap had to do was loosen the front wheel and this cleared the problem.

Apparently this is quite a common fault with Vantages - the first time it cleared by reversing the car a few yards but this time it didn't.

Has anybody else had this problem.

never heard of it on here or AMOC, so it cant be that common ...probably the usual case of AA man trying to sound intelligent and knowledgeable I think, when its probably the first Vantage hes been out to LOL wink

seriously, Ive had that happen once I think in the last 20 years on another car, and cleared it myself by reversing a bit

its hardly a "fault" with the product ...its like getting a puncture...sometimes it happens

Yes, I had it. Scared the living daylights out of me. The repair chap turned up promptly and took no more than 5 minutes to fix. There was no damage to the car.

Have had it twice on mine too, and did the high reverse, hard braking thing which did the trick quite nicely !

Also had this with my E36 BMW about a month ago, so it's not unique to High performance cars.

Once on the DB7, once on the V8V....

Being pedantic, the stone is not actually in the disc...!

True but wanted to keep the title fairly short.

Twice in five months given that I've never had this before in many decades of motoring and many different cars seems to indicate to me that it's a design fault.

Had this twice on my V8V, but used to get it on my Boxster before that. My drive is all loose stones though, which doesnt help. Always fixed by reversing, stopping, going forward again.

Def not a design fault, my local small country roads are littered with small stones and all my cars have at one time or another picked one up between disc and shield.

Yep, happened to me a couple of times.

Sounded like the exhaust had fallen off at first but luckily I was on a Car Limits day and Andy knew exactly what to do.

The second time was in a car park and my abrupt reversing manoeuvres caused a few odd looks but no damage.

I get a rattling sound at low speeds in DB9 which I think is stones from my gravel drive

Had it on my DB9 shortly after purchase. Scared the living daylights out of me - thought the exhaust had dropped off and was scraping across the ground. Garage call out guy had me put it on full lock while he put his hand in and broke the stone up.

Yep, the first time I too checked to see if the exhuast had fallen off.

This time it was a front wheel ans it sounded as if something had seized - horrendous grating sound. But I hadn't been anywhere near any gravel, just an ordinary tarmac road.

...yeh just an ordinary road, 20 mph, guy who sorted it recognised the sound and had seen it before .... explained that it is because the brakes are exposed ... try to draw me a diagram as to where the stone was, but lost me. He said not too serious if left as the stone would break up anyway .... but way too loud waiting for it to do that!
