Hello

I may have volenteered myself to help a mate out with a project.
Please dont set 007 on me or something but he wants to put an Aston V8 in a mid engine car project, I have yet to see it. Please don't ask why I did and woke up 2 hours later.

But he has a choice of 2 engines, straightforward late 70's carb motor (my preffered choice just for ease of setup)
Or
Virage early 90's with what lookes like weber marelli injection, all the loom and ecu's available etc.
The Virage looks a better engine 4 valve head etc, but information on these engines seems quite hard to come by. Good wiring diagram would be a start along with engine management schematic. Whats the story on good workshop manuals.

Anyone hear done any conversions

Thanks

Jake

repectfully, if you have to ask these questions you are very unlikely to complete this extremely complex job and make it all work well.
i do wish you the best of luck.....youll need it!

Ok thanks for that, built quite a few cars over the years and prepped a few race cars, I was hoping that someone on here had used an Aston Engine in something else other than an Aston or maybe upgraded and may have access to some good tech information or point me in the direction of some good manuals etc.

Personally I would stick and LS7 with Kinsler stack on it, that would go very well and GM make a lot of the tech info available.

I appreciate the Aston is not really a DIY car but thought it worth asking, I hoped there might be some people on here who race them and look after them etc.

Thanks

Jake

You may find that that is a question best asked on the AM Owners Club forum, simply because you are likely to hit a wider audience and have a better chance of getting the "experienced" audience for this sort of thing.

tbh, by modern standards, either of those 2 engines are pretty basic, even the fuel injected one if really only gonna have a couple of wire to connect if you have the orginal engine loom!

i don't think it would be too difficult to get either to work, but if you're gonna go to all that effort, i'd simply fit an aftermarket ECU (Motec, DTA, emerald etc) then at least you'll be able to cal it to run right in your application (liekly to be different back pressures etc for intake / exhaust)

Also as already mentioned, unless you have a very specific reason to use that engine, an LS(x) of just about any flavour (x = 1 to 9!!) would almost certainly be a lot better and cheaper / faster !
