Gentlemen, your opinion's please. I still dont know wether to go for a v12 or the 6cyl. Has anyone on here had both the cerb and the vantage? If so, how did the running costs of the cerb compare to the vantage? I have no intention of selling the cerb, but it would give me an idea of costs. Also, is it true that fitting spark plugs could cost £1500, and that the susp. bushes go every 5k miles? They say that you need to spend £3000 a year on a cerb, but as i only do 3k miles a year it has never cost that much.If i only intend to do the same mileage in the aston, would this not be the same? Or should i play it safe and buy a very nice I6 volante??

i can can give you an idea of servicing costs by an independent,

1. spark plug replacement is not £1500, on the v12 they are prone to misfires so if coil packs and plug replacement is required cost including vat is £1150.00

2. servicing is recommended every 6 months but in all honesty most people because of the low mileage usually just have a yearly service, depending on which service is required varies between £345 to around £900

3. bushes, front antiroll bar bushes can be a regular but not expensive to replace, as for every 5000 miles, no not normally, other common bushes are the rear trailing arms, at worst case if the bushes can not be replaced and the whole arms are fitted price is about £500.00 but these should last for years,

prices are for the vantage model from an independent including parts labour and vat , so it would be best to check with who you intend to use,

Like you I never spent £3000 every year on my cerbera. I spent that much one year out of nine. I did most work myself and used the best quality synthetic oils from OPIE. An average for service/repairs for 2000 miles per year was about £700.
My DB7 vantage is serviced by a main agent to maintain resale value. They agree a low mileage car like mine (2000 miles/year) only needs a single service each year. Cost is about £800. A problem with the aircon was fixed under warranty and I only had to pay £70 for a new a/c/gas drier. A coolant tank leak was fixed under warranty too. Nothing else has gone wrong but I have learned not to kerb the alloys (£130 to have two resprayed!!). The Aston is a much more reliable car than a cerbera. The big cost is depreciation. My DB7 lost £20k in the first two years/4000 miles. The good news is that it will only lose £10k in the next TEN years. My cerbera lost about £2k each year. TOP TIP is to buy a DB7 that is immaculate to start with then pamper it. Keep up service record, using Aston garage.

Thanks guys. Going to see one on Friday. Having it inspected and will be able to see it on a lift. Not to sure about the colour though, it's in chiltern green, dont know if this would be a popular colour to sell if i ever had to.Good spec though. Manual volante which i think could be sought after in years to come.
