Hi all,

Im currently thinking of buying a pre owned DB9 and worndered if you could answer me some questions.

1. What is the practicality of using this car for day to day driving?

2. Room in the back? is there any I.e to fit friends in if going for a meal.

3. Would you recommend buying from a dealer or private?

4. Approximate insurance for a 28 year old male?

Also if there is anything else you think i should know please feel free to mention it.

Thanks for your help guys.

1. fine

2. very small friends for short distances only. Small kids are fine.

3. If still under warranty, either, but dealer always feels safer.

4. unlikely to be low, but depends on record and where you live.

I use mine every day and put about 7,000 miles on it. I have other cars but I still use it a lot.

Really only suitable for small children. I am 6ft and there is zero room behind me. My wife is 5ft and we can fit a teenager behind her with the seat all the way forward. Adults would have to be double jointed.

3. Would you recommend buying from a dealer or private?

There is a 3 year warranty (which can be extended). Personally, I'd probably go main dealer but its a close call if it still has lots of warranty.

4. Approximate insurance for a 28 year old male?

Lots! I think I'm £1.5k with some no-claims and living outside London. Confused.com will be your friend here.

I use either my 911 or DB9 most days and it's VERY easy to live with. The steering is meaty and full of feel, but not heavy. It's just perfect. The rear Visibility is pretty good and with parking sensors is a doddle to park. The only thing I would say is that it's a lot lower than it looks, so you have to watch when going over speed bumps. As for reliability they are pretty good as long as they are used. I didn't use mine enough for a few months after I bought it and the battery went flat the electric windows and seats need reset etc, massive hassle. Since using the car more, it's been absolutely fine.

Yes there are seats in the back, but they are fairly useless. I have had an adult in the back, but 1 there were quite small and 2 they were very uncomfortable. There are really kids seats to be honest. Although, it's handy for putting a bag or two in. They aren't like 911 seats, they are much smaller.

I tend to buy from dealer just for piece of mind, but wouldn't rule out buying privately especially if it was from a fellow pistonheads member. If you do buy privately then make sure you get the car properly inspected and HPI checked before. The main bonus of a dealer is the warranty, but you could always purchase an after market warranty from Aston fro about £2k a year I think.

As fro in insurance, I'm younger than 28 and got insurance so you shouldn't have a problem. As for price it's so difficult to tell, depends on if you have points, where you live etc. I would guess about £2k upwards. I would recommend going to a broker to sort out your insurance, believe me they can do wonders.

It's also worth remembering when the cars were updated. They got VERY minor updates in later half of 2006, stitching down the middle of the seats and a slightly bigger boot (I do mean slight). In 2008 they got new wheels, slightly different interior and a bit more power.

Hope that helps and good luck with your search. If need any more questions answered then just PM me, I'll be g;lad to help.

I Just sold my DB9 but to answer your questions:

Daily commuter fine as long you are in a straight line on a motorway, stop start it is a pain and country roads are not great (my office is in Beaconsfield

Seats in the back are pointless except for a few Waitrose bags.

I bought from an Aston Dealer my last 2 and it was a shocking experience, I would buy it private with a transferable warrenty on it, save £7k - £10k and get first hand feedback from the owner of what it is like. If it is a shed they wont be selling it private they will off load to a dealer.

I was 26 when I bought my V8 and 28 when I got my DB9 and I have a conviction and points on my licence, but still got for £1400 through Admiral.

You will love the looks from everyone and the car is beautiful but I would have a long think if it is an everyday car, I used an XJ sport for work eventualy as the Aston couldnt hack it and it came out at weekends.

I drive a sports pack manual in London traffic and find it fine, so I can't imagine how a normal TT2 car could be a problem daily driver.
