Hi all
finally, I bought myself an AMV8 Vantage. Enclosed a picture for interested parties.
Only had it about 2 weeks, and its a big (and pleasant) change from my last car (Porsche Boxster). Anyway, I have some questions I hope owners could help me with (and yes, I have RTFM).

1. The PATS light stays on (solid) for about a minute after I drive off - is this normal?
2. Cant access my Samsung mobile phone book from the car [bluetooth] - says "Please wait..." - but can see the last 10 dialled numbers and scroll thru/use them.
3. Where are the jacking points (no jack?) as the hubs have traces of rust and I want to repaint them - seems fairly common on these cars.
4. Glovebox does not seem to have a light - should it?
5. some wheel centre caps are a bit 'corroded?' at the edges - again common, but are these replaced under warranty?
6. Temperature gauage thermometer picture looks 'out of focus' when you look at it normally, but looks clear if you put your head near the drivers window! - whats that all about?

Thansk for any help, and yes, I love this car so far!

I've had mine a month, so I'll answer what I can:

1. Haven't noticed this.I'll double check to be sure next time I get in.
2. No problem with my phone (LG)
3. I remember seeing the jacking info in the manual. I'm in the US so I don't know if the manuals are the same.
4. I haven't seen a light in the glove box. Not that anything fits in there except the manual.
5. No issue with the wheel caps on mine, you definitely want to dealer to fix this.
6. Temperature readout looks fine on mine. Perhaps clear plastic over the display has an imperfection in it. Have the dealer check that too.

No. I would assume the car is alerting the monitoring centre but, since you are not the original owner, I assume Eurowatch (the people who run AM Tracking) will not know who to contact. In addition, the membership might well have lapsed.

Do you have the two black credit card size tags? Are they in the car with you when the light is on? If the answer to both is yes, I'd suggest the tags are dead (most probably battery) so take them to the dealer and get new ones ... plus get the phone paired with the car to save you needing to carry the ridiculously thick tags!

Give them a call - their details are here .... https://secure.eurowatchcentral.com/astonmartin/

Means it's alerting. Is your tracker activated?

2. Cant access my Samsung mobile phone book from the car [bluetooth] - says "Please wait..." - but can see the last 10 dialled numbers and scroll thru/use them.

Bluetooth's flaky on the Aston and doesn't give full features will all phones. Your Samsung may not be supported fully.

3. Where are the jacking points (no jack?) as the hubs have traces of rust and I want to repaint them - seems fairly common on these cars.

Have a look in the manual. Think it's towards the back in there.

4. Glovebox does not seem to have a light - should it?

Can't recall. Think it might, but it's so tiny you'd have to go some to lose something in there! Or rather, to actually store anything of note in there!!

5. some wheel centre caps are a bit 'corroded?' at the edges - again common, but are these replaced under warranty?

Don't know. Mine are OK. Did you buy it from a dealer? If you did, and have built a relationship with them (ie spent some money) they may do it for you. Otherwise, not sure. I would guess probably not (they might not be that expensive - have a word with rick-derby).

6. Temperature gauage thermometer picture looks 'out of focus' when you look at it normally, but looks clear if you put your head near the drivers window! - whats that all about?

Specsavers? smile No idea. Not noticed it on mine. Perhaps you have grease on the glass on the instrument binnacle?

Thanks for the replies.

WRT the PATS light, I stopped taking a tracker fob with me as it did not seem to make any difference! As far as I know, the Tracker service is not activated (car is March 08, so a one year service would have expired by now). I will take it to an Aston dealer to resolve. I've heard about 'pairing the phone with the car' - how do you do this (did not see this is the manual) ?

I bought this privately, and in a different part of the country from where I live, so I'll look for an Aston dealer for servicing etc.

Dont worry about my last post - found the answer here:

https://secure.eurowatchcentral.com/astonmartin/ar...

"In order to use your Bluetooth device as a driver recognition device, you should contact the Aston Martin Tracking Helpline on +44 (0) 20 7832 2913. You will need to tell us the Bluetooth name of your device and you will need to be in the car with ignition on and the Bluetooth in your device must be on and set to discoverable."

You can pick these up cheaply. They are available on the well known auction site for about £8 each from HWM shop.

It's a refreshing change from my Porsche 996, as they supplied black and white decals as standard. To have coloured badges on the wheel centres was an option, costing about £250 IIRC.

If the fob wasn't disarming it, the batteries were probably dead.

To hook up your phone, you need to call the tracker hotline and tell them you want to do this. You'll need to be in the car, make a note of your bluetooth "name" (it'll be in the settings area of your phone) and they then take the details from you and pair it up. Takes 10-15mins.

Think I've got most things resolved now:

1. The PATS light stays on (solid) for about a minute after I drive off - is this normal?
Worked out one Tracker Fob is not working - AM dealer said they will order new ones (warranty).

2. Cant access my Samsung mobile phone book from the car [bluetooth] - says "Please wait..." -
AM dealer will check, but they said this feature depends on my phone.

3. Where are the jacking points (no jack?) as the hubs have traces of rust and ..
AM Dealer said not under warranty, but will repaint hubs for £65 - seems fair to me.

4. Glovebox does not seem to have a light - should it?
Dont know - will get AM dealer to check.

5. some wheel centre caps are a bit 'corroded?' at the edges -
AM dealer will replace under warranty.

6. Temperature gauage thermometer picture looks 'out of focus' when you look at it normally, but looks clear if you put your head near the drivers window! - whats that all about?
Noticed this can change - firs thing in the morning (in the garage) its fine!?

Called a nice guy at AM Brentwood (Essex) and the car will go in when the new Tracker fobs arrive and get all these things resolved (maybe not the 'fuzzy' thermometer picture! If all this is fine I'll stick with the same dealer.

AM dealer should have an up to date mobile pairing list that shows a list of phones and whether or not they are fully or partially compatible - I was given one 14 months ago by my dealer so assume they are generally available.

Couldn't leave you not knowing so have been out and checked.

It doesn't have a light. Button does, and footwells do. But the glovebox doesn't.

Mine's a MY07.

Thanks for checking. Strange to have no light, but maybe they figure you don't need one as its so small you wont use it!
