After owning my Jag. XKSS for ten years its time to sell it as my wife has trouble getting in and out of it. Thinking of buying a DB7. Would like your opinion on servicing costs on both the 6 and 12 cyl. cars. How do you see the prices of both cars heading in the near future and more importantly in 10 years time. I would be quite happy with the 6 cyl. car as if i want a good tear-up i've got a TVR cerbera. I am not concerned with making money on the car, but i do intend to keep it for 10 years or so, and dont want to loose as much as i have on the cerb, not that i intend to sell it for many years to come. An Aston is the only other car she who must be obeyed likes. Would 25k buy me a half sensible 6 cyl. drophead. And finally, is there a good Aston independent garage in East Sussex?

The '7 is not easy to get in and out of either.

Talk to Dom' at Chiltern Aston (www.db7centre.co.uk) (no affiliation, etc). Better still, take the afternoon off and pop-in (just outside Hemel).

25k should buy you a very nice i6. Servicing costs probably 75% to 50% those of the V12.

25k from a dealer no problem for an i6. A bit more for a V12. However, IMHO, a lot of the interior colour specs Aston used were slightly suspect in those days i.e. the purple Max Power steering wheel etc, so be weary of that when looking at cars. You could travel a long way only to open the door peek in and be disapointed. In my experience the more sedate colours hide the stand out effects of the cheap switchgear too.

Mechanically, they are durable and I can't see the i6's getting much cheaper, but I believe the V12 will drop further, but not by much. As a TVR owner, should you feel the need for speed, there are supercharger/pulley upgrades available out there for the i6. Whuile the i6 may be cheaper to service, I would say that the V12 will provide more of a sense of ocassion.
