Hi

I just took delivery of my 56 DB9 last Friday ( bounce ) and it came with a small black credit card size dark plastic item. The item has the AM wings logo on it which is small (c.1.5cm across) which also stands slightly proud. As I say the size is roughly credit card size and is around 8mm in depth. It looks to be a two part affair with a seam running all around the outer edge. On the back it has an inset sticker with...

P.No
TAG ID:
a barcode
(c) Auto-txt Ltd 2006

I have left the Part number and Tag ID off here just in case they are security related and are unique to my car (not that I dont trust you, you understand smile ). I can put the part no and tag ID up on here if anyone thinks they can help me identify said item (or I can PM them)

Any help with ID'ing this item would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Ideally you should have two of these tags.

And if the date is 2006 the battery will probably fail soon... frown

So you bought a DB9 and were not told what these are?? They are kind of an essential part of being able to drive the car!! I'm amazed.

My V8VR is about to get dropped back from the dealer and I'm told that they've replaced both my tags as they were 2007 ones and the new ones are much better. Not had any issue with mine so far.

You should have had all this explained to you when you bought the car and should have had e-mails and calls from Aston tracker/tracker to set up your account with them. Have you not done any of this yet? If not then the car is likely to still be registered to the old owner and you may get knicked for steeling it wink

These are your tracker tags linked to the chip hidden in your car. You need one of these with you when you go out for a drive. If you don't have one then the dash normally tells you they are missing it with a big red glowing dot showing somewhere on your instruments. If the tag is missing a nice man from Aston Martin tracking will contact you (probably via your mobile) to ask if you are with your car, they also use SMS to try and make contact. If they do you will need to give them you four digit code to cancel the alert.

There should be an a little elastic pouch in your drivers door to store it when you are in the car. Remember not to leave it in your car when you get out. Also remember not to keep it with your keys in the house or when out and about (this can be difficult - only so many pockets).

Another handy tip is don't put the tag in the same pocket with a mobile phone when driving as sometimes certain phones can shield the signal.

Hope that lot make sense.

Hmmm!

I have activated my Tracker Horizon which I believe was the standard fitted to the cars of my cars age (its a 56 plate). During discussion with them there was no talk of these fobs.

I believe that the newer cars have a different AM system. Is it not this system that comes with these fobs?

I couldnt see anything on the Tracker website about fobs either

Help yikes

Edited to add: I have just spoken with Tracker technical and they say it is nothing to do with them. Their system doesnt need fobs! So...

Help yikes

If it's fitted with Tracker then you don't need the fob. Possibly a relic from AM Tracking having been fitted to the car originally but now dormant. At least if it's not then the previous owner gets a call every time you drive it without the tag wink

Check with Eurowatch, they supply and monitor these tags.

The plot thickens!

I have contacted Eurowatch and they do not have my car on their records! They supplied as standard on 2007 models onwards

Soooo...I have a superfluous tag smile

I think I will try the 'driving without the tag in the car' idea and if nothing happens I will just have a nice piece of plastic with the AM logo on it hehe

I exepect my nipper might want it to put with all the crap/detritus that is his bedroom hehe

Cheers for the help y'all

Did the car come from a dealer or trader?

If so then maybe the tag is from one of their other cars. It must be from one of them.

Couldn't AM Tracker find details via the tag id?

It was a dealer but not of DB9's (It was Chiltern Aston)so they were a little bemused.

I asked the same question regarding the Tag ID and the lady said not...I suspect they could if REALLY pushed but I couldnt really be arsed tbh.. smile

cheers

Went out for a few miles without the tag yesterday and had no red warning light, no phone call and nor did the car explode!! hehe

It must be some random tag from another car I guess...

Are you UK based?

If so, I believe you definitely should.

Are they in the door pockets (perhaps behind the little elasticated straps at the front of the pocket)?

Yes, UK based. The car has a french manual so maybe it was imported. No tags though.

Any ideas?
