I have been watching the aston threads for a while now and I have always wanted a V8 vantage. Due to my advancing years and a company willing to pay me quite well I am looking to buy approx 2007 V8 vantage.

However what I found with my TVR was affording the car was one thing, servicing and running it was another story financially.

So I don't want to get stung again, how much does it cost to service these wonderful cars. Also what type of things should I be looking for when buying one, common faults etc

any help would great

theres quite a few threads on servicing costs ...but in general, if you go to a specialist then they are no more costly to run than a regular German saloon - £500 every 10K miles

fuel of course is dependant on mileage travelled ...avg 18mpg in mine

thats about it - oh, budget £1200 a year for extended warranty or keep your fingers crossed smile

Coming from a Tamora, I have found that so far, the servicing costs have been about the same.

Once the niggles have been sorted out with the Aston, it almost certainly to be more reliable than an avarage TVR. Vantages can develop minor engine problems (oil leaks and the like) but not on the scale of the S6!

Small world.

I remember seeing your Lupo GTI, then Tuscan, around the wilds of West Cumbria. Did the TVR go onto the plate AA02 TVR?

Ah just wondered 'cause I kept seeing a very similar looking Tuscan with that plate.

Think I saw you the other day in a Crossfire in fact. Apologies for the stalker-ish post by the way - your plate is very recognisable and I used to see the Lupo all the time!

I know of at least 3 other TVR owners as well as myself who have now bought Astons. I havent had mine long enough to comment on running costs other than fuel. So far my Tuscan was thirstier. Whilst I never thought the Tuscan would kill me, I did sometimes feel concerned at high speeds that the car would hold together.
I feel very safe in my Vantage. Mine is still under warranty, but I will be extending when the time comes.

Go on... You know you want to.

i went for a 2006 T350 and now in a vantage and i would never go back....the TVR was fun for a time but it was just a car i had to have.......and was bloody fast and defiantly taught me how to drive.......

As for running costs so far i would say its cheaper, my Aston defo does more mpg than my TVR ever did....and as for servicing its been a lot cheaper so far......go on do it there is no nicer place than behind the wheel in a Aston Martin smile and with that sound of the engine.....mmmmmm

I came from a TVR Griffith to a DB7 and then (tomorrow!!) a DB9!

I would concur that I got less mpg from my Tiv than the 7...probably due to the 5.4 litre race spec engine I put in her. The servicing costs are much higher for a general service. The RV8 services are around £350-500 and you will pay at least 4 figures I would suggest for a service on an AM.

cheers

I had five TVR's before changing to a V8V earlier this year.

Not as involving a drive but special nonetheless.

I am pleasantly suprised with fuel consumption. On a run to Norfolk I got 28 mpg, and I wasn't sitiing at 55 mph - so 30 mpg is not out of reach - if maybe a bit boring. Much less when pushed.

I'm off to Edinburgh in August, so will post how I get on.

I actually worked it out over the weekend - we had a Sagaris for 38 months from new and did 33K miles in it

Ive had the Vantage a similar time and 37K on the clock

the TVR was/has been 2x as expensive to run as the Vantage, the fuel economy difference is neglible, its mainly servicing costs being every 6K miles vs 10K miles

as long as you go to a specialist then a Vantage is waaaaayyy cheaper to use as a daily driver than a Sagaris smile

Thanks for all the info folks, glad to hear its cheaper than the Tiv to run.

As to the guy who seems to know my every car, that is just plain weird! Maybe I should get something more inconspicuous!

Although having a noticable car is fun, not when you blast past your boss on a dual carraigeway though!

Were would you but one from dealer for piece of mind or independant for better price?

depends how old you are buying ...under 3 years old then either will do, over 3 years old then dont forget a dealer will be putting a warranty on it that will cost you £1300 ishh otherwise, so make sure to take that into account and some of the independants dont look that cheap anymore frown
