Im off on my jollies and whilst Im away the car turns 3 and the warranty expires, the 140 point check I had in march upon aquisition is too old so a new one is needed hence a last minute trip to the dealer - all good so far.

Whilst Im away the car is being 4 day detailed by off your marks in Lpool and its a tight schedule expecially as leaving work for a while etc etc and Strats being 45 minutes away.

Well the roof has packed up - big job - happened at the dealer and of course fully covered as the warranty still has 2 weeks to run. I am so glad its packed up now (had no clue it was failing at all, i thought the extended whine on canopy cover closure was odd but not fatal) rather than under the extended warranty and im virtually getting a whole new mech. If out of warranty I shudder to think, even under extended warranty Im sure a contribution would be sought

Stress is I now have a strats merc in Liverpool and im on holiday weds am so Im dropping the courtesy car off at the detailers and they are taking my Aston to the detailer and collecting the courtesy car whilst Im on the other side of the world.

Im sure it will all be ok BUT Im stressing and hoping a nice emirates trolly dolly can unwind me.

Roof was ok when it went in but had developed a squeak which drove me nuts.

Whilst in at starts it failed open and after a day of diags it was traced to a cable break for a piston positioning sensor, sensor showed ok but the logic circuit thought not hence it stopped working.

sadly it means I dint get a new roof mech but im glad its sorted now

Just put a warranty on it as well at £1200 + vat

Any idea what it would have cost without warranty and whether garage have seen the problem often?

It's not common. Aston's are complicated cars built by a small manufacturer and while they have some top guys some things just take a while to find that's all. Works OK now though?

Just got back and I have not yet picked up the car from the detailer but the Aston paperwork covering the roof states.

it was a hall sensor wiring fault BUT the rattle that was driving me nuts was "hydraulic pipe connections rattling on roof frame" and "roof frame pivot rattling"

apprantly now its tight as a drum

The detailer says I need new wheels as they have been badly refurbed so I will check ebay - no hurry

If its not raining on weds I will pick it up then and post some pics

I went off road for the detail in that I was more concerned on certain aspects than others so we agreed a custom detail. Matts an award winning guy and quite obsessive his top detail is a silentium (!) here http://www.offyourmarks.com/service.php?idService=... which is 80 hours. I settled for a bit less not a lot less though and its come in circa £1k please note I built this into the bid on the car when I bought it as it had been machine polished by a chimp.

As of now 11.45 weds I cant get over to collect it but Im hoping to do so today.

After this detail I will be foaming and filtered watering the car (its garaged) and only use it on a dry day so I will not touch it by hand myself just a monthly (or longer) trip to the detailer for a wash (cost to be haggled over when collected)
