Has anyone had any bodywork done at works service?

after this morning, http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

I am wondering if it's worth taking it to them, I have got a quote from the local AM approved repair place for the work (£650). I really want it doing asap and the earliest the local can book me in is the 22nd June.

any thoughts?

If there's someone who can fit you in sooner but are located further away, let me know, and I can come with you if needs be.

Works Service is professional but very expensive and not the quickest one's on earth. I had my front spoiler and wheels refurbished at Works Service and it was nicely done but as said quite pricey.

In my experience some Aston colours are very difficult to "blend in" and when I first got my car it had a paint defect on the bonnet which I had resprayed under warranty by the local Aston dealers bodyshop. I had to take it back twice for re-sparay as the paint "reacted" after it had dried (Tungsten) so obviuosly expertise and experience is quite a factor and here Works Service is in a position of their own.

Ive said before, the paint codes AM give out are only clues as to the real colour....
Someone must mix the colours and then drop a little something extra in to change it "just that special amount".
Ive done 3 cars and not 1 of them was to the paint code.

Water based paints are bloody awful IMO.
I repainted a bumper previously repaired by a reputable company, the basecoat, even though painted over 12 months ago, till wiped off where the lacquer had lifted.

Reactions are usually where the lacquer has been put on too soon before the basecoat/water has dried off.

Im repairing one at the moment with a smashed front wheelarch. It was only painted 6 weeks ago, even though the lacquers hard, the basecoat can be removed with your fingernail making the edges lift. 2k high build primer to the rescue!!
