Got my first AMOC track day with the V8 Vantage since buying it last October, any tips on tyre pressures etc. In the past with my 911's it was always good to let a couple of PSI out. Is this the same for the V8V?

yes ...go out and do a few laps to get them warm, then come back in and let them down to factory pressures when hot

I think you will be pleasantly surprised - I was the first time I took mine around Snetterton ...as were the Loti my mates were in as I went past them LOL wink

Thanks guys, great day today. Seems general rule of thumb is to increase tyre pressures by 4lbs. This is to help stop rolling radius of the tyres. Seemed to worked really well.

Are you sure that you didn't reduce the tyre pressures by 4psi!!

This is to compensate for the incresed pressure from heat at high speed.

More pressure protectors the shoulders of the tyres, but gives slightly less grip.

you are already gonna have a load more pressure than you do on the road, due to heat

...well of course, if you go on a track day, and pootle around like its a Sunday drive, then maybe not

but I found after a few laps I was 5 psi up, then a few more near 10psi

..then its time to let some pressure out as grip is disappearing

factory pressures when hot work for me for grip on track

of course if you were picky, you borrow someones pyrometer and check the temps across the width of the tyre when hot and adjust accordingly smile

No added 4psi, as that was the advice of the guys there, which included a number of race testers. Agree though I was concerned about grip but did not seem to be an issue, esp pulling 110mph down Hanger and then heavy breaking into corner all seem OK!

You should be getting 140mph down there biggrin

so by that logic then, we should all be adding even more to the factory pressures for road use, as the tyres dont get warm enough and will grip better if we pump them up some more ?

It really depends how hard you're working the car on track. Pushing really hard would heat the tyres up significantly, more so than you'll ever experience on the road.
